LeRoy J. Bernstien

LeRoy James Bernstien,71, passed away on September 1, 2026 at Traverse Care Center under the care of Moments Hospice Care in Wheaton, MN.

LeRoy was born on March 19, 1955, to Henry and Beverly (Sveum) Bernstein in Lisbon, North Dakota. He grew up in Lisbon with his brothers and sisters. He received his GED and worked in carpentry and concrete work throughout the years. LeRoy later moved to Enderlin and resided there until his injury, after which he was placed in a nursing home until his death.

Leroy shared his life with Janell Jacobson, whom he married in 1980, and they had three children, including a son, Steven, who left this world too soon.

In 1990, LeRoy met his longtime companion, Judy Kamrath, with whom he shared many wonderful moments over drinks and good conversations. He enjoyed fishing when they were biting and gardening and tinkering around in his garage or around his house and drinking beers with his close friends (Adam, Jerry, John, and Troy) and family.

LeRoy is survived by his children Angela (Nate) Andrajack of St. Francis, MN; Bobbie (Chris) Safar of Valley Springs, SD; Danielle Bernstien of Brooklyn Center, MN; and Derek Bernstien of South Fargo, ND.

A grandfather to 16 Grandchildren: Connor, Hunter, Taylor (Aaron), Tessa (Jordyn), Kennedy (Jack), Labaan, Ayaan, Aliyah, Aadan, Anisa, Layla, Zakariya, Hamza, Kayson, Alyssa, Hunter; and a great-grandchildren William, Emmelene, and Haidyn.

He is also survived by his siblings, Robert (Ronna) Bernstein, Shirley Johnson, Eileen Bernstein, and Richard Bernstein; his cousin, Eugene (Yvonne) Foyt; and numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends and neighbors, Dave & Pam Pfaff.

Leroy is preceded in death by his parents Henry Bernstein, and Beverly (Alvin) Adolf, his son Steven, long-time companion Judy Kamath, brother, David Bernstein, sister, Elaine Thayer and brothers-in-law Danny Thayer and Warren Johnson, and sister-in-law Loretta Bernstein.

LeRoy’s family acknowledges and deeply appreciates Laura Utke for her unwavering care and support; her kindness has touched our hearts.

A burial will take place at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Canaan Moravian Church Cemetery. A gathering to celebrate LeRoy’s life will take place following the burial, and we invite all to join us at the Davenport Supper Club & Lounge. It will be a time to share stories, laughter, and memories, honoring LeRoy.
