Linda R. Lockwood Linda Rae Lockwood, Fargo, ND died Friday, June 11, 2004 in MeritCare Hospital after a brief battle with lung cancer. Linda, the daughter of Hanford and Alice Ness was born on July 16, 1947 at Stanley, ND. She graduated from Bowbells High School and Minot State University. On November 25, 1966 she married her life?s love, Ed Lockwood. She began her teaching career at Berthold High School, Berthold, ND, as a home economics and physical education instructor. While at Berthold, Linda coached gymnastics and was the school?s first girl?s basketball coach. After leaving Berthold in 1977, Linda assumed the duties of office manager for the Mohall Public Schools, Mohall ND for 10 years. She and her husband moved to Underwood, ND where she once again returned to the classroom to teach home economics and physical education at Underwood High School. In 1989 she was a tutor at Trenton, ND public schools. She and Ed moved to Fargo in 1991, and Linda assumed the duties of office manager for the Creative Arts Program for the Fargo Public Schools. A position she held until her death. Linda was very active in community service programs where ever she lived. In 1979-80 she was the First Lady for the ND Jaycees, assisting her husband as he served as state president. During their tenure and the following two years she was program manager for Project Concern International, a world health education program. She received award recognition for her efforts. Her untiring dedication to world health issues and her desire to assist people were benchmarks of Linda?s beliefs. The ND Jayceettes, presented Linda with the prestigious Key Woman Award in 1980, the same year she was recognized by the Outstanding Young Women of America program. Linda held numerous local and state offices for the ND Jayceettes. In Fargo, Linda has been active in promoting the arts through her work and volunteer efforts. She was an active member of the Hope Lutheran Church where she enjoyed the wonderful people and participating in church functions. Linda?s love of life, exuberant smile and caring attitude was like a magnet for people, especially kids. She will be missed by those lives she has touched during her 34 years working in public education. She enjoyed collecting clowns, reading, biking, yoga, music, travel and attending high school sporting events. She leaves Ed, her husband of 38 years and one son, Shane Lockwood of West Fargo, one grand son, Justin Gilge of Killiher, Minnesota; her parents, and two brothers, Dennis and Wayne both Bowbells, ND. Memorial contributions may be sent to either Hope Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND or the Fargo Public Schools Foundation. A scholarship in Linda?s name will be established. Visitation: Monday, June 14, from 4-6 pm with a prayer service at 6:00 at Boulger Funeral Home Funeral: Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at 1:00 in Hope Lutheran South Campus Church, Fargo, ND. Burial: Thursday, June 17,2004 at 2:00 at the Bowbells Cemetery, Bowbells, ND
