Lois Casavant, 89, Fargo, North Dakota died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Bethany Retirement Living.

Lois was born to Virgil and Alta (Albenson) Shogren on June 16, 1923 in Carthage, SD.  As a child and youth she grew up in Stanton, IA.  She graduated from Stanton High School.  She became a primary school teacher at Channel Heights School in San Pedro, CA.  She married Donald Casavant on March 10, 1946 in Mamerland Lutheran Church in Stanton, IA.  They lived in Chicago and Evanston, IL before Don’s employment as Manager of stores for Crescent Jewelers transferred him to Fargo, ND in 1949.

Lois was a Campfire Girls Leader and served on the board of this organization for several years.  She was a charter member of the Dakota Hospital Auxiliary and in conjunction with that was extremely involved working and serving on the board of the Family House for 18 years.  Lois was a charter member and very active in the Fargo League of Women Voters.  She also served on the State League of Women Voters as their treasurer for many years.  She belonged to the Fine Arts Club for over 30 years and spent time as the Unit President.  Lois was a life-time member of the Round Table Organization.  She belonged to the Chapter AU of the PEO.  As a member of Olivet Lutheran Church, she served as Sunday School Superintendent and was on the Board of Education and Board of Deacons.

She is survived by a daughter:  Renee Eagles and her husband, Keehn, of Eden Prairie, MN; a son:  Christian Casavant and his wife, Linette of Dubuque, IA; three grandchildren; a grand-daughter Anne (Joshua) Stomberg, a great-granddaughter Evelyn Stomberg all of Prior Lake, MN; two grandsons; Joel Casavant of Aurora, CO and Lee Casavant of Ames, IA; three sisters:  Anne Shogren of Tulsa, OK, Phyllis Isaacson of Dassel, MN, and Virgilene Pickard of Ankeny, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Donald.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their exceptional care of Lois.
