Lois Virginia Schmit

Lois Virginia Schmit, 78, was born to Carl Johan and Gertrude Louise Dahlen on the family farm near Kindred, North Dakota.  Lois grew up and attended country school near Kindred.  She worked at the Ulness Drugstore in Kindred for a number of years, then for Farmers Telephone in Kindred.  Lois married M. Donald Schmit on September 17, 1950, in Lois' parents' home in Kindred.  Don and Lois moved to Casselton for two years before returning to Kindred to start a family.  She was a Scout den mother, Sunday School teacher and superintendent, a member of Hobby Club, and a Kindred Vikings fan for children, grandchildren and their friends. She was an avid quilter with the Norman Lutheran Church Quilters and in recent years sewed the bindings of hundreds of quilts at home.  Lois' pride and joy was her family, many of whom were surrounding her in prayer in her hospital room as she entered her eternal home.

She is survived by her husband, M. Donald Schmit; her five children Diane (Neil) Dockter, Horace; Mike (Marty) Schmit, Davenport; Pat (Vicki) Schmit, Davenport; Kathy (Dennis) Sumption, Kindred; Jon (Michelle) Schmit, Milroy, MN; her 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Luther (Lorraine) Dahlen, Salem, OR; and Arthur Dahlen, Thief River Falls, MN.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Gertrude Dahlen, brother John Dahlen, and great grandson Michael Handt.

    Diane and Family,
My heartfelt sympathy to you and yours in the death of your Mother. I just picked up a weeks worth of papers to read this evening and noticed your Mom’s obituary. (a very nice picture and nicely done).
My mother passed away on the 19th, and her funeral was last Saturday. I still have company from California, although some have left. It will seem very empty around this house once I am alone for the first time in my life. May God bless our good memories of our Mom’s. Marilyn

    Don and family,

We did not hear about Lois’ passing until after the funeral service. We are so sorry for your loss and that we missed paying our respects. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

We all have wonderful memories of you and Lois sitting around the kitchen table talking and laughing. Mom and dad enjoyed your visits so much.

She was a great lady and she will be missed by many.

We just found out at noon today that
Lois had passed away. A customer
at the post office told Denise. We
are so sorry to hear this and we wish
we would have known because we all
would have been there. Mom (Dorothy)
is very very sadden by the news. Donny
and Lois were two people you could
always count on. They were family!
No matter what, they were always there.
How we wish we could have been there
also for all of you. We are thinking of everyone and mom will be calling Donny soon.
