Lorace "Hawk" Hakanson

lorace

Hawk grew his angel’s wings at Sanford Hospital Fargo surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born in Harvey, ND February 18, 1941 to Walter and Anna (Solheim) Hakanson.

Hawk graduated from Fessenden High School in 1958 and went on to college at NDSU and graduated with a degree in Agriculture Economics. He served in the US Airforce from 1966-1972. Hawk was very proud to be a veteran. He worked at Federal Land Bank in Fargo, Lakeside State Bank in NewTown, Farmers Home Administration(FHA) in NewTown, and State FSA offices in Bismarck and Fargo until his retirement at age 62.

In 1963 he married the one and only love of his life, Gloria Pellett in Fessenden, ND. They have three children and nine grandchildren. Hawk enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, “tinkering”, and especially spending time with his family during the summer months at the lake. If anything needed to be fixed, you asked Hawk. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. Church was very important to him and enjoyed his adult bible study group.

Hawk is survived by Gloria, his loving wife of 49 years, his children Mark (Stacey), Marne (John), Dana (Jeff); his grandchildren Johnathan (JC), Jesston, Jaron, Cody, Cambri, Caden, Carli, Jaydon, and Brandalyn; his siblings Owen (Elaine) Hakanson, and Arlys (Alden) Pederson. He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Anna.

  1. Manassas VAWords can’t begin to express the sadness I feel right now knowing that I won’t ever get the chance to tell my Uncle I love him just one more time. I am so thankful for the chance to be at the service and get to reconnect with my cousins after all these years. Uncle Lorace, we love you more than words can say.
Aunt Gloria Mark, Marne, Dana and families…you are in our prayers each and every day. XOXO.

Gloria, Looking back, time has seemed to have slipped by so quickly. As a young girl in Fessenden I still remember Lorace as the good-looking guy in the Red Owl store and I was so glad when the two of you got married. As neighbors growing up together we will always have a connection and a warm spot for Fessenden–that’s why this loss is felt by all of us. Please know that we are thinking of you and praying for you. Love always! Annette & Jason Skiftun Jeanette Breider

Gloria, I’m so glad that we ran into the two of you those few years ago in the Menard’s parking lot here in Minot. Could have visited for a long time.
