He attended the University of North Dakota and was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. In 1970, he married Kathy Ferguson in Carrington, ND. They were blessed with 3 children and 2 granddaughters. They made their home in Hillsboro for 48 years before moving to Fargo in 2021 to be closer to their family.

In 1960, he began his 36-year career with ASCS, which would later become the Farm Service Agency, in Langdon, ND. He became the County Executive Director in Garrison, ND in 1962. In 1973 he took the position of CED in Hillsboro and retired from there in 1996. He was very proud to work for the Federal Government and enjoyed the time he spent with farmers in the office. He was active in the Jaycees and was the official score keeper for the Garrison high school boys’ basketball team. He was a lifelong UND sports fan and enjoyed attending games with his family. He was an avid reader and enjoyed attending Twins and RedHawks games and watching the Vikings on TV.

In 2006, Loren and Kathy purchased a winter home at View Point Resort in Mesa, Arizona. It was an opportunity to be close to family and it was a new stage of life that brought friends from all over the US and Canada into their lives.
