Born in:
Buxton, North Dakota
Resided in:
Hillsboro, North Dakota
Loren Ardell Wegge, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Sanford Hospital in Hillsboro, ND.
He was born September 16, 1936 on the farm he called home in eastern Traill County, North Dakota, to parents Selmer and Agnes Wegge. Loren graduated from Climax (MN) High School in 1954 and on June 22, 1958 married Muriel Pederson, the woman he would live with until Christ called her home just 16 days earlier. Muriel and Loren farmed east of Buxton, ND until they moved into their current residence in Hillsboro in December of 2014 but his ‘home’ was always the farm.
Loren was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church in rural Buxton. While farming was his vocation, Loren’s love for music in particular singing, was central to his daily life. He taught himself to play guitar, piano, accordian, many other instruments and was known throughout the area for his ability to yodel like Eddie Arnold and other recording heroes of his youth. Loren took tremendous pride in recalling all the special events (including his own wedding) he had been asked to share his gift of music. During a stroll through the Salem Cemetery a few years ago he counted 54 funerals he had sung for before “someone came and talked to me and I lost count”.
Loren is survived by daughter Lori (Mark) Bolton of Grand Blanc, MI, daughter Beth (Donn) Hanson of St. Michael, MN, son David of Buxton, ND, daughter Jodi Lochner of Duluth, MN, and son John (Krissy) of Richfield, MN; grandsons Andrew (Tara) Bolton, Josh (Rosie) Bolton, Peter (Arica) Hanson, Mathew Lochner, Sam Lochner, Peter Lochner, Austin Langdon, Dawson Langdon, granddaughter Maddie Wegge, great-granddaughters Ivy and Jade Hanson, Eleanor Bolton, great-grandson William Bolton, and his brother Vern (Janet).
He was preceded in death by his wife Muriel, parents, sister Shirley (Jerome) Hamre, brothers Marlyn (Judy) and Lyndell (Barb), daughter-in-law Jennifer Wegge, and grandson Kyle Hanson.
A joint memorial service will be held for Loren and Muriel at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Hillsboro at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 5. A light lunch will be served following the service.

Blessed be his memory. A very nice man.
My sincerest condolences to the entire Wegge family. May you always remember all those moments with you dad that made you smile.
So sorry to hear this. Hugs to all
I love you Dad. Thank you for a beautiful childhood.
My dad, Marvin Karlstad, enjoyed Loren’s music immensely. He was “The Sometimes Band” biggest fan! We watched the video of the band giving dad a plaque, and it was his greatest honor. It meant the world to my dad, and I have tears just recalling it. I lived in Hillsboro for 18 years and was honored to participate with Loren in the summer musicals and we would visit about “The Sometimes Band”! I will treasure those visits always. Blessed be the memories of Loren and Muriel.
I just saw the facebook post and was shocked. We are both so sorry that both your mom and dad are now gone, but happy that they are now together. I can’t imagine your grief. But the Lord is there for you, as you know.
Condolences to the Wegge family on the passing of both your mom & dad. I was Loren & Muriel’s babysitter for Lori & Beth & had cousin Loren sing at our wedding in 1971. Fond memories of those times!
Hugs to all!
Pete & Sharon Hoff Raatikka
Beth and Don,
My condolences on the loss of your father and father-in-law. May he rest in peace.
David and family:
We are so very sorry to learn of the loss of our distant relative, friend and neighbor. It was not that long ago I had a talk with Loren as he was getting his pizza in town to bring back home to eat with Muriel. I remember meeting he and Muriel the first time out at the Larson farm west of town. When he broke out in song, I was amazed. Bless the memories of Muriel and Loren; such very fine folks and many good times remembering them
