Loretta Darlene Schumacher, 74, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully at HIA Heather’s House on August 11, 2026 with her family by her side.

Loretta was born April 5, 1952 in Flasher, ND to Joseph and Pauline (Koch) Roll. Following her formative years and graduation from Elgin High School, Loretta went on to obtain a degree at Minot Business College.

On June 3, 1976, Loretta married the love of her life, Anthony Schumacher. Together they made their home in Napoleon, Edgeley, Litchville, eventually settling in Fargo. Along the way, their family grew as they welcomed their six children.

Loretta wore many hats, from being a devoted mother to providing day care in her home for six years to being a school cook at Litchville and Edgeley school districts, head cook at Big John’s in Edgeley and the Ranch House in Fullerton and retiring as a cook at Titan Machinery of Fargo.

Her love of cooking and baking surpassed her professional career as her passion for the culinary arts were well known and enjoyed by her family, friends, and any company passing through. She was particularly known for her German potato salad. She stood firm in her ability to craft dishes by taste living by the mantra “looks right, tastes right!” Loretta especially enjoyed Christmas and holiday baking each year. One of her favorites was her popcorn cakes that she would take to various annual church fall dinners and was loyal to her Fish Friday dinners.

Loretta loved to plant her flowers and tend her garden. From her deck each day, she enjoyed the visiting butterflies that were attracted by her blooms. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading books, her nightly popcorn, playing Triominos and cards, and going to the movie theater for the newest movie, especially scary ones. She was also a collector of a large amount of salt and pepper shakers in her many adventures of rummaging sales. She had a special bond with her women’s church Cursillo group with the Transfiguration Church of Edgeley and continued her relationships to present day with them. In her later years, she enjoyed time spend with her swim group at Touchmark where she developed beloved friendships and memories.

In the end, she was always worried about putting others before herself. Her family will always cherish the memories and though she is no longer here physically, knowing they will see her again one day gives them peace and hope.

Loretta is survived by her husband of 50 years, Anthony “Jim” Schumacher; children Jessica (Jeff) Fabian, Miranda (Mark) Voigtschild, Rachel (Adam) Wald, Rebecca (Gregg) Katchmark, and Anthony (Kelly) Schumacher; grandchildren, Caleb, Kaden, Morgan, Hanna, Emma, Jacob, Reese, Annika, Stirling, and Sloane; brothers, Joe (Norma) Roll, Maynard (Donna) Roll, Nicky (Lorna) Roll, Roger Roll, Bradley Roll, and Duane (Karen) Roll; sisters, Claudia Osteremiller, Theresa Metz, Shirley (Ray ) Schutt, Linda Johnson, Evangeline Tebeau, Della Ficek, Janice Hansen, Beverly Winkler, Dori Kopfer, and Madonna Walden; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Pauline Roll; daughter, Jennifer; brothers, Mark and David Roll; sisters, Hildegard and Maevonne Roll; niece, Chastity Morris; and brothers in law, Harvey Ostermiller and Bob Metz.
