Lorraine’s service will be livestreamed below at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 20,2024:

Lorraine K. Tibert, 72, of Hillsboro, ND passed away Thursday, September 12, at the Hillsboro Medical Center.

Lorraine Kay Tibert was born on May 28, 1952, in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of J. Budd and Louise (Wosick) Tibert. She was raised on a family farm near Minto and graduated from Minto High School in 1970. Shortly after, she moved to Hillsboro, ND where she raised her 3 children.

Lorraine attended Aakers Business College and Hair Designers Academy before owning Lorraine’s Hair Salon in Hillsboro until 2006. At 19, she began driving a school bus and continued for 53 years, while also driving a beet truck for Hultin Farms for 30 years. She loved fashion design and sewing, making many of her own and her children’s clothing, as well as a variety of costumes for community events. As Hillsboro’s first female City Commissioner, Lorraine served the community for 25 years. She was known for speaking her mind, being strong-willed, and always being hands on with her projects. She upgraded buildings, assisted kids with community service, planted flowers, and worked closely with the city police. However, she was most proud of the restoration project at the city cemetery and the opening of a new section of land which she also chose to be her final resting place.

Lorraine lived by her own rules and was a fearless, funny, bold, Harley riding, card-carrying member of the NRA and badass mom and grandma. Her biggest pride was her 5 grandsons. Being Lorraine’s grandson meant root beer floats for breakfast, dancing on the tables to her music, teaching them how to drive, road trips to SD, target shooting in the country, and lots of hugs and I love you’s.

She is survived by her children, Nicole Altendorf, Grafton, ND, Mary (Brian) Mattson, Hillsboro, ND, Mark (Chrystal) Altendorf, Fredericksburg, VA and her favorite grandsons Randy (Katie) Olson, Levi (Megan) Mattson, Mark Mattson, John Mattson and Jack Mattson; siblings Bill (Jody) Tibert, George Tibert, John Tibert, Melvin (Cathy) Tibert, Mary Alice (Mark) Tweten, Ione Worman, Andy (Rhonda) Tibert; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Louise Tibert, brothers Walter Tibert and Mark Tibert; a nephew, Daniel Worman and a brother-in-law, Joseph Worman.

In lieu of flowers, Lorraine’s family requests that donations in her memory be made to the following non-profit organizations: Shriners Children’s Hospital (https://www.shrinerschildrens.org) or Cats Cradle Shelter at 9 Ninth Street South, Fargo, ND 58103.

  10. Dear Tibert Siblings,
I was deeply saddened to learn about the loss of Lorraine. Growing up in Minto and you on the farm, our connection made us more than just friends, we became like family. I still cherish the memories of our grandparents’ love story and the bond we shared as “grandkids” of both. North Dakota, Minto, Voss and the family farm is a part of me that never grows old. It is my hope those memories bring you comfort in this most difficult time.
    May love surround you,
    The Campbell Siblings (Marge)

  11. My deepest sympathies to Nicole, Mary, Mark and Family. You are all so special to me as was your mom. I have so many memories that I will cherish forever.
    Love, Joyce

  12. To all of Lorraine’s family:

Our deepest sympathy for your loss. Although we were not close, our interactions with Lorraine over the years bring fond memories. Lorraine was one of a kind and we are sure, she will be deeply missed.

    Toots and Gunner

  13. Deepest sympathy to Lorraine’s family. She was a great Minto High classmate, graduating in 1970. I have wonderful memories of going to the farm to visit my Grandmother Verda, where Lorraine and I would pick and eat raspberries until our bellies hurt. It was so much fun to spend time with her. Her energy and vitality will be sorely missed. 🙏🏻

  14. To the family and friends of Lorraine. May loving memories see you through this difficult time. She was a firecracker! Our condolences. 🙏

  15. We had many trips riding in South Dakota during the rally. Trips to Wyoming for the Ham n Jam. She enjoyed being around good people and introduced many to me. Your bikes were always polished and clean, ready to ride. We both liked the wind in our face and riding safely to get back to Spearfish. So many good times. Never to be forgotten.

  16. So sorry to you kids and grand- kids. The obituary described her very well! Such a unique person! I enjoyed being around her. May God bless the memory of Lorraine🌺

  17. God’s got another beautiful Angel in Heaven. Reading her story describes best what a wonderful way Lorraine lived, the impact she had on everyone she met, her Community, and the legacy she left on Earth. Now her joy will be welcomed in Heaven! I know that the sadness that accompanies the passing of our loved ones is felt with a sting, but Lorraine would want us to Celebrate her Life!
God, please comfort all her loved ones. Remind them she’s come Home. There are no tears in Heaven and we can look forward to seeing her again. May the peace of God that passes all understanding be with those that struggle. Remember the good times, the laughter, joy, and love that followed Lorraine wherever she trod. God bless America and the entire family and friends.

  18. God’s got a beautiful Angel in Heaven. Lorraine’s Story is a great testimony to what a wonderful woman she is and the impact she had on the lives of everyone she knew, her Community, friends, and family. I pray the family, especially her 5 grandsons, will find comfort in knowing she’s in Heaven where there are no tears. Death leaves a sting with the passing of our loved ones and it’s a time to turn toward God, and not away, to help us with our mourning. May His peace, which passes all understanding be with you. Celebrate her life and the times we enjoyed. Let her love, joy, happiness, and service to others be carried on by those that remain here on God’s Earthly Kingdom. God bless America and all Lorraine’s family and friends.

  19. So sorry to hear of Lorraine’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Bless her memory.
