Louise Leary

April 5, 1935 ~ June 29, 2023
Louise Leary was born in Deberry, Texas on April 5, 1935 to Elbert and Hallie Jernigan. She spent most of her childhood there with her parents and her brothers and sisters.
Louise later moved to East Texas where she met and married Elish Leary. They had eight children and finally settled in Lamesa, Texas where she remained until her husband’s death in 2016. She then moved to Fargo, ND where she remained until her death.
To know Louise was to know she was a praying God-fearing woman. Family was everything to her, she loved watching her family grow and thrive especially the babies. She was always preaching that family needs to stick together no matter what, she never turned her back on anyone no matter the person or circumstance. She worked as a housekeeper for some time and then transitioned over to Home Health for a while, but was always a wife, mother, and grandmother first. She attended Ebenezer Baptist Church for most of her life and then later joined St. John’s Baptist Church. She served her community wherever she could. There are so many words we could use to describe her yet not enough. She departed this life on June 29, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her parents Elbert and Hallie Jernigan, her husband Elish Leary, her son Calvin Larry, daughters Margie Larry, Doris Larry, and Francine Atchison, sister Essie B. Kates of Amarillo, TX, and brother Billy Smith, Dallas, TX.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her sister Fannie Stenson of Dallas, Texas and brother LD Jernigan of Amarillo, Texas. Daughters Mary Lang (Hurseful) of Keller, Texas, Linda Maxwell of Fargo, ND, Shirley Larry-Kagunda of Forth Worth, Texas and Peggy Reese of Fargo, ND. Twenty-three grandchildren and a host of great grands, great great grands, and nieces and nephews.

I have sooo many great memories of you, but what I will remember most of all is your great sense of humor and how you always had a smile on your face, and how you loved your family, the summers I spent there in Lamesa with you all was Priceless and I will always cherish those times, Rest well aunty, your Mom, sister Essie, your brother Billy and most of all your children and husband that went on before you will meet over there with loving arms, I love you always and until we meet again,
Wilma Joyce and Family
No words to describe this loss. I’ll always love you. Love Pearl. Rest up Esther
Then I would make sure to have you back back early the next morning to finish your destination. We would say, I love you, give me a warm hug and thank you and I wod watch you leave the station.
Now Auntie, I talked to mom and told her you were coming and to meet you at the gates to welcome you home. What a glorious time you all are having. I can see mom’s smile and hugging you ever so tight because you all are together again.
Family know that we are praying with you and for you that God’s grace, mercy and love will give you strength for the hours, days, weeks and months to come. We know you loved Auntie and God loves her also.
Your cousin and family of Essie Kates
