Marie Antoinette Simmons was born October 18, 1933, in Fargo, ND, the daughter of Alvin and Julia Simmons. She attended school in Kindred, ND, graduating in 1951. She received her Business Education and English degrees in 1955 from Concordia College, Moorhead.

Marie began her teaching career in Maddock, ND. She married Evan B. Moe Jr. on June 17, 1956. After their wedding they moved to Coronado, CA, where she taught school while Evan was in active duty in the Navy. They moved back to Kindred in 1957.

Marie spent several years serving as a substitute teacher in many subject areas in the Kindred School District. Marie began working at Cass County Electric in 1973 and eventually served as the secretary to the managers of operations and engineering. She earned her Professional Secretary Certification in 1990. She was honored by the Red River Chapter of the Professional Secretaries International in 1996. She retired in 1998 on her 25th work anniversary. She loved working at Cass County Electric and made many lasting friendships.

Marie was very active in the Kindred Lutheran Church. She sang in the church choir and sang many solos, many of them at funerals, some of them in Norwegian. She played piano and organ and directed the Junior Choir. She had a “get it done” spirit and was involved in countless areas of service to the community.

Marie is survived by her husband; her four daughters, Mary (Ted) Johnson, Diane (Hal) Fisher, Julie (Paul) Jensen, and Linda (Howard) Osborn; her beloved grandchildren, Scott (Katie), Meagan, Drew, Jordan (Derek), Julia (Brandon), Jocie, Kristen (Barrett), Kara (Brian), Andrew (Abby), Ian, Alex, and Leah; 14 great grandchildren; and many friends whose lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Archie, and many beloved pets. To quote Marie, “The Eagle has Landed!”

A celebration of Marie’s life will be held at Boulger Funeral Home with an informal gathering at 1 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m., Friday, July 26, 2024, at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, ND.

  5. I had the privilege of working with Marie for many years at CCEC. I so enjoyed her kindness and sense of humor. She was a very special lady! Prayers for Evan and her family 💕

  6. What a BEAUTIFUL ANGEL! I’m sure she’s singing with Jesus, and watching over all she loved! Marie-you are missed!

  7. Marie was a kind and feisty lady which I loved about her. She even taught me how to crochet, that means she had patience too. Sorry to hear of her passing and will always remember her fondly.

  8. Dear Moe family – best memories of Marie – always feeling welcome and at home during my many visits with Julie on your farm, and good food too! These memories I will cherish so as I hold them close to my heart. What a beautiful, loving family she and Evan raised, and the joy the babies, grand babies and great grandchildren made their hearts sing, or was it the other way around – actually both. And, her smile always shown brightly. Prayers continue, and please reach out to all for anything you need as we are here for you now and long after the service. Your media pictures posted have blessed us with fond memories for years to come. God bless you, and much love. Mel Busch

  9. So sorry to hear about Marie’s passing. She had such a beautiful singing voice and to hear her sing in Norwegian was very special.
