Marjorie Almen, 93, passed away on March 14, 2023, at Sanford Hospice House, Fargo, North Dakota.
Marjorie Ann (Egerstrom) Almen was born on September 9, 1929, in Kerkhoven, Minnesota, to David Egerstrom and Cora Merryman Egerstrom.
Marjorie graduated from Kerkhoven High School in 1947 and went on to earn a Home Economics degree from North Dakota Agricultural College (now NDSU) in Fargo, North Dakota, in 1951. She started her career as a home economics teacher in Park River where she met Lennart Almen who was farming west of Park River.
Marjorie married Lennart in Kerkhoven, Minnesota, on July 17, 1953. They made their home on the Almen family farm in rural Park River. Lennart died December 14, 2017.
Marjorie was best known for her radiant smile, care for others, juneberry pie, sewing, mending, and knitting. She enjoyed serving many meals in her home for family and friends. There was always a special touch of fresh flowers, pretty napkins and food with a lovely presentation. Anyone stopping at the farm would be invited in for at least coffee and a homemade cookie.
Marjorie was very involved at St. Peter and Our Savior’s Lutheran churches in Bible studies, Ladies Aid, knitting group, and any other activity that required volunteers.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Mary Fischer (Dan), Carol Leach (Dave); son, Peter (Joann); grandchildren, Justin, Nicolas, and Kristen; and several nieces and nephews.
Marjorie is preceded in death by husband, Lennart; parents, Dave and Cora; sister, Mildred; and grandson, Nathan.
A graveside service and burial will be held in the summer at St. Peter Cemetery, rural Park River, North Dakota.
Memorial donations may be made in Marjorie’s name to St. Peter Cemetery Association or the Park River Bible Camp.

Carole and family, so sorry for this great loss. I was privileged to meet Margorie when Carole brought her to work. Carole you look so much like her and took such good care of her. I so glad you got to spend so much time with her these last few years. She looks so fun and lovingly cares for her family. I feel like I got to know Margie through Carole. I remember Carole buying her shirts that were “her”. I loved seeing the pictures. God bless you as you grieve but also celebrate your mom’s life and rejoice that she is in heaven and you will see her again! Much love Carole’s friend Teresa

I loved visiting with Margie when I was at Touchmark visiting Esther. Margie will be missed by so many people. May her memory live in your hearts forever.

I enjoyed visiting with Marjorie when I led worship at Touchmark. Since my first parish was at Milton, we knew many of the same people.
My prayers are with you as you adjust to life without her presence.
Pete,
Was out at St Peter’s last summer to pay my respects to my Qually relatives. Saw Lenart’s stone and was stunned that Marjorie was still with us. Lived a good long life, and I remembered her hosting some of us buddies at the farm long ago. Yeah, that smile was something else.
Drop me a line brother,
Mark
Margie was my mom’s sister. She lived with us in Fargo as a “Nanny” for a time when my brothers and I were little kids. Then, when she married Lennart and moved to the farm, we spent many happy times visiting her. I even “worked” on the farm for short times when I was in grade school — helping Lennart measure fields and working on the “rock-picking detail” with the Almen kids. Margie always referred fondly to my brothers and me as the “Lang Boys” — her only nephews from the Egerstrom side of her family. After moving to the East Coast, my visits to the farm were far less often, but I’ll always remember her warm and friendly charm and her radiant smile. Along with all of you, we’ll miss her greatly! Love, from Dave, Sue and family.
Just read this in the Grafton paper. Marjorie was my home etc teacher and I really liked her. I saw her and Lenard many times when I visited Park River to see my folks. Sorry for your loss.
