Marjorie Greenley

Marjorie H. Greenley, 93, of Fargo, ND died on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Eventide, Moorhead, MN.
Marjorie was born March 11, 1918 in Stirum, ND, the daughter of Albert and Myrtle (Edwards) Kraling. She graduated from Lisbon High School and attended North Dakota Agricultural College. She married Alfred C. Greenley on September 21, 1937 in Crookston, MN. They lived in Fargo before moving to Billings, MT and Minneapolis, MN. They returned to Fargo after World War II. Marjorie worked for Hughes Womens Apparel and the Diana Shop in Fargo and was a curator of the Cass County Historical Museum at NDSU.
Marjorie was a very active charter member of Holy Spirit Church in Fargo. She was a Gold Star Mother and a member of Jon Greenley Amvets Post 7 of Fargo. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Auxiliaries. Marge was a proud member of The Daughters of Dakota Pioneers, The Catholic Daughters of America, The Thursday Community Education Club and The Breakfast Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several card clubs. Marge and Al were enthusiastic gardeners and had their yard featured in The Forum. They won many awards for their garden vegetables and fruits at the Red River Valley Fair. Marjorie and Al enjoyed summers with their family at their cabin on Pelican Lake and spent many winters in Arizona.
Marjorie is survived by her sons, Douglas (Linda) Greenley of Moorhead, MN and Roger (Claudia) Greenley of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Matthew (Eeva) Greenley, Moorhead, MN, Jill (Lakhjinder) Kang, Harrison Twp., MI, Michael (Emma) Greenley, Daly City, CA, Cristel (Neil) Chetney, Hampton, VA, Nicole (Marc) Mosser, Harwood, ND; step grandchildren, Matthew Frederick, Fargo, ND, and Lindsay Frederick, Fargo, ND and great grandchildren, Davon Young, Masen Young, Cure Young, Catherine Greenley and Patrick Greenley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her son, Jon Greenley, her parents, her sister, Laura Benson and her brothers, Alton Kraling and Raymond Kraling.
She loved all of her family and friends and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren.

Marge was an amazingly wonderful woman, mom and wife. Having grown up next door on 12th st., I saw many examples of her warmth, kindness and generosity. You and I played at your home countless times and, as you know, I’ve often thought of her as my second mom…..nice to see Sandy (Smithson) saying the same thing.
My sympathies to you, Roger and your families.

Dear Doug, Roger and family
It was such a joy living next door to the Greenley family when I was a child into my young adult life. Marge looked after my brother Tim and me while our Mother (Hilda) worked. As kids we grew up with Jon, Doug, and Roger. We had a wonderful life on 12th Street. Marge was our second mother and Al was the father we never had. We will always treasure our times with Marge and Al and you boys. I will miss writing to Marge. She was my inspiration.

Longmont COHi Doug&Linda- Mom told me about yr mom passing on Easter. I’m sorry I never had the chance to know her better. I remember a gracious lovely lady that I admired. The other day at work our young receptionist and I were talking about learning card games. I have always wanted to learn Bridge. She thought it would be fun to start a group at work. The first person that came to my mind that day was your mom. I also remember a “Kennedyisc” setting at your lake house with your mom being just as dignified as a Rose Kennedy. I’m sure her life was filled with love and will be missed by you guys and your children. I hope our trip can be a time to catch up with family. Mary & I look forward to seeing you.
