Marlene H. Anderson
August 4, 1937 ~ December 27, 2024
Marlene Anderson passed away peacefully at age 87 on December 27, 2024, in Port Richey, Florida after a fulfilling and impactful life.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Helmer and Margaret Kellberg; her husband, Garland Anderson; and her sister, Dalys Seilstad.
Marlene was born in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, to Helmer and Margaret Kellberg. Marlene enjoyed growing up with her sister, Dalys, and a large extended family of aunts and uncles and family connections.
Marlene married the love of her life, Garland (Gary) Anderson, in 1957. They moved to Texas to follow Gary’s job with the army where they started their family. After completing his service, they moved back to North Dakota. The couple put down permanent roots in Fargo, North Dakota, where Marlene continued her passion and joy of raising her family and creating a warm and welcoming home.
Marlene lost Gary to cancer when she was 39. She never wavered. She continued with the same dedication to raising her family in a stable and happy home. When she decided to work outside of the home, she was delighted to spend 28 years with the YMCA in her role as an Administrative Assistant. She never looked at her job as work, so retirement at age 71 was a difficult decision.
Marlene had strong and enduring friendships with neighbors, co-workers, and in her church home at Hope Lutheran. Marlene was known for her own brand of friendliness and humor: Singing “Yoo-Hoo” as a greeting, calling her friends on Halloween to share her witch laugh, and throwing back her head when she laughed enthusiastically. She liked good old idioms such as, “It’s pouring pitchforks and hammer handles.” And oh, yes, she laughed whenever she won a game of cards, even with the grandkids. She was affectionate and hugs were in abundance with Marlene.
Marlene will be greatly missed by her daughters, Jody Patton (Michael) and Cindy Anderson (Jon), her son David (Crystal Sazenski); her grandchildren, Babette Cuadrado (Peter), Aaron Patton, Jon Patton, Haley Sandberg (Ryley), Lucas Anderson, and Brayden Sazenski; as well as her great grandchildren, Lily Pero, Keiji Patton, Marley Patton and Kami Cuadrado; and her nieces and nephews.
Known for her infectious laughter, humor, kind-heartedness and supportive nature, Marlene touched the lives of all who knew her. A devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and auntie, her legacy lives on with the countless memories she created. We find comfort knowing that Marlene is reunited with Gary and her loved ones in perfect peace with our Lord.
A Celebration of Life and luncheon will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Boulger Funeral Home, 123 10th Street South, Fargo, North Dakota.

Will always remember Marlene for her great laugh and smile . She was a warm and caring person and always fun to be around . Will miss you Marlene.
Marlene was the best of the best! That laugh of hers was so infectious! She was like a mother to me in so many ways. I will never forget this very special lady who impacted my heart in such a beautiful way. My deepest sympathies to everyone.
I loved to be around Marlene and Dalys, they knew everything about the world. As a younger cousin I was always intrigued by Marlene. Yes her laughter was second to none, she taught me how to ‘ snap’ my gum and walk on high-heels.
Godspeed dear cousin enjoy your next journey,

Granny was such a strong and caring cornerstone, placing unparalleled value on family. She was so thoughtful towards her family. Every Sunday we’d have dinner at her house. It was fun, easy, welcoming. I loved when she taught me how to play cards at her house, and I love how she loved to win. She’d laugh so joyfully and freely. If you can see this from Heaven, thank you Granny. I love you.
Cathy and I, would like to send heartfelt condolences. How fortunate we all were, to see her in Hoople a couple years back!
Thinking of you Jody!

Marlene was our “oldest” cousin as we discovered at the family reunion in Hoople a couple of years ago. She never seemed old! We were close when I also lived in Fargo, but lost touch when I left there in 1995. I would track her down when I was in town, usually at the YMCA.
RIP my beautiful cousin. there are sooo many of our family waiting for you to play cards with in heaven!
Marlene was a beautiful person, inside and out. I know she loved Lucille, and she will be missed by the entire Hanson clan. Our heart goes out to her family. Love you all.
Thinking of you both Dave and Babette after loss of Marleen. I have lots of good memories of her.
So sorry for your loss, Jody. It’s never easy.
I grew up in the house behind Marlene. I remember her being kind, friendly and always having a smile. My condolences to the Anderson family.
