Marlys Hofer

Marlys Moena Van Heel was born Oct. 16, 1938 in Sisseton, SD to Mike and Mabel (Peterson) Van Heel. She grew up on a farm 11 miles NE of Sisseton. Marlys attended a country school near their farm. She graduated from Sisseton High School in 1956. Soon after she moved to Huron, SD and lived with her sister Muriel.

Marlys married Jeraine Hofer on Nov. 11, 1957 in Pever, SD. They made their home in Huron, SD. Marlys worked in the Ladies Appeal Industry, she was employed by Geyerman’s and the VNG Shop. She also worked at the local hospital in the Cardio Pulmonary Dept. She moved to Watertown, SD in 1988 and began working for Zales Jewelry. She continued to work for Zales later transferring to the Fargo Store in 1996. She retired in 2012.

Marlys was an avid bowler for many years and greatly enjoyed traveling. Her journeys included a memorable trip to Italy, as well as several visits to Arizona.

She is survived by her two sons, Jay of Atlanta, Georgia, and Chad of Fargo, North Dakota; three grandchildren, Brandon and Marissa (Chad) and Marlo (Jay); and two great‑grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Muriel Ingle, Violet Phillips and Wayne Van Heel.
