Marlys (Rheault) Savageau, 68, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2024, under the compassionate care of Red River Valley Hospice and the staff at SMP Health-St. Catherine’s North, following a courageous 15-year battle with cancer.

Born on January 25, 1956, to Roger and Darlene Rheault, Marlys led a life filled with quiet joys and sharp humor. Her family deeply appreciated her dry, cynical, and honest sense of humor, which could fill any room with laughter. Marlys had a profound love of music and movies, and her genuine passion for both was evident to all who knew her. A 1974 graduate of Shanely High School, Marlys lived with grace, embracing life’s small moments with her unique blend of warmth and humor.

When Marlys was diagnosed with breast cancer 15 years ago, she approached her diagnosis with remarkable strength and resilience. Although her cancer returned multiple times, she faced each recurrence with unwavering courage and grace, all the while living her life to the fullest.

Marlys found her greatest happiness in the company of her family. She was especially content watching a Vikings game, playing cards, enjoying a pontoon ride, or spending the holidays with loved ones. Her love for her family was evident in the way she supported and encouraged them throughout her life.

Marlys is survived by her beloved son, Trever, and her siblings: Mary (Steve) Edner, Marlene Rheault, Sandy (Gary) Nemcek, Tim (Patti) Rheault, Brian (Wendy) Rheault, John (Jackie) Rheault, Ann (Phil) Christlieb, and sister-in-law Cheri Rheault. She is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews, along with many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, Darlene and Roger Rheault, her brother Darrel (Sonny) Rheault, and her nephew Daniel.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Red River Valley Hospice and the staff at SMP Health-St. Catherine’s North for the loving care and comfort they provided.

A private celebration of Marlys’ life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Red River Valley Hospice.
