Marlys Aletta (Johnson) Simenson passed away on May 31st at the age of 96. She was a resident at Eventide Sheyenne Crossing nursing home of West Fargo.

Marlys was known for her love of poetry and music. She was the second-born twin in Fargo at the Cass County Camp Hospital. Marlys will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her daughters, Marcia and Sheila, as well as other family members and loved ones, will remember her for the joy she brought to others in life, not the sadness of her passing.

Marlys was raised at the Johnson Farm in Walcott, N.D., and was the daughter of Hilda and Lewis Johnson. She graduated from high school in Colfax, N.D. Marlys studied and was a former employee of Western Union Telegraph from 1945 to 1950 and again as a night manager from 1964 to 1981. She then retired but not for long, as she accepted a full-time job at St. Luke’s Sanford Hospital from 1982 to 1997. Marlys also supported her daughters through Blue Birds and Campfire Girls as a den mother. She was known for her faith and was devoted to Elim Lutheran Church since 1952. Marlys was also a loyal member of the Sons of Norway.

Marlys was wed to Ernest Simenson for 67 years. She was baptized and confirmed as a member of Richland Lutheran Church.

Marlys is survived by her sisters, Elaine Fiske and Hazel Anne Linke; as well as her older brother, Lester Johnson. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Marlys was preceded by husband, Ernest Simenson; brother, Maurice Johnson; sisters-in-law, Wilma Johnson and Shirley Johnson; and brother-in-law, Donald Linke and Boyd Fiske.

A funeral service in her memory will take place at Elim Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2023. Visitation will take place one hour prior to services. Burial will take place at Richland Lutheran Cemetery, Walcott, ND.
