Martha Grothman

Martha Grothmann Hillsboro, North Dakota Formerly of Grandin, North Dakota Martha passed away on Friday, August 20, 2004, at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home at the age of 91. Martha Grothmann was born December 21, 1912, in Grandin, the daughter of August and Anna (Bettermann) Grothmann. She was baptized on February 16, 1913, and confirmed on June 16, 1929, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Grandin. Martha grew up in this area and graduated from Grandin High School. After her schooling she lived and worked in Grandin prior to moving to California during the war. She worked in Oakland, California, for a few years in the ship yards before returning to North Dakota. She later worked as manager at the Wheelin Caf?? in Grandin, and also as a clerk at the C&H Grocery Store in Grandin. Martha was a life long member of Grace Lutheran Church in Grandin, as well as a member of the Lutheran Women??s Missionary League and the church choir. She loved spending time in the garden with her flowers as well as cooking for family members. Martha is survived by her brother and sisters, Anna M. Grothmann of Hillsboro; Carl (Gertrude) Grothmann of Grandin; Henry "Hank" Grothmann of Hillsboro; Irene Gesell of Miltona, Minnesota; and Elaine (Jim) Johnston of Parkers Prairie, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Willy and August; her sister, Marian Mayo; and her brother in law, Sy Gesell.
