Marvel E. Johnson of Fargo, ND, departed this world to join our Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the age of 94 at Bethany Retirement Living while under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Marvel was born on February 14, 1930, on a family farmstead in Mountrail County, North Dakota to Edgar and Thelma (Trihub) Zavalney. She grew up in the Parshall/Plaza, North Dakota area – the oldest of seven children. She graduated from Parshall High School. Marvel married Virgil Johnson on April 7, 1951, in Parshall, ND. She was a homemaker for her four children and husband and enjoyed many creative crafts of crocheting, needle point, and sewing, teacup collecting, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles and reading. Her and Virgil greatly enjoyed passing time visiting family, going to casinos and square dancing as members of “Y” Promenaders and Circle 8 square dancing clubs in Fargo.

Marvel will be greatly missed and remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Those she is joining in Heaven are her husband of 60 years; mother and father; three brothers, Bud Zavalney, Ted Zavalney, and Ervin (Veronica) Zavalney; sisters, Norene Boswell and Janice (Haakon) Carlson; son-in-law, John Pike; and infant granddaughter, Memory Pike.

Marvel will be lovingly remembered by her son, Gary (Eileen) Johnson; daughters, Deborah (Ken) Nicolas, Gail Tabor, and Sherri Pike; grandchildren, Phyllip (Susan) Taylor-Alonso, Alicia (Nathan) Re’, William (Laine) Pike, and Daniel Pike; great grandson, Chase Re’; sister, Mavis Case; and sister-in-law, Joan Zavalney.

Funeral Service: Friday, November 8, 2024, at 2 PM at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior.
