Marvin L. Gisvold, 74, Arthur, ND, died at his daughter?s home in Barnesville, MN, on Wednesday, September 24, 2003. Marvin Gisvold was born October 6, 1922 in Galesburg, ND, the son of Palmer and Myrtle (Mergner) Gisvold. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Galesburg High School. He attended North Dakota State University, and later served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Upon his discharge, he returned to the family farm in Galesburg. Marvin was united in marriage to Joyce E. Stordahl on March 10, 1956 in Fargo. They moved to their farm in Galesburg, ND, and farmed there until 1979 when they moved into Galesburg. They owned and managed Palmer?s Place in Galesburg from 1979-1986. Then they managed the West Traill Caf? from 1986-1991, when they moved to Moorhead, MN. Mrs. Gisvold died in 1998. Later that year he moved to Arthur, ND, and worked for Don and Marge Mergner until ill health forced him to retire in August 2003. He is survived by his children, Joelle Gisvold, Barnesville, MN, Mark (Shari), Lakota, ND, Paul, Minden, NE, Matthew (Linda), Greenwood, NE, Teresa Gisvold, Kissimmee, FL, and John, Fargo; seven grandchildren; and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce; and his grandson, Brady Gisvold. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Leo?s Catholic Church, Casselton. Visitation will be held Friday from 6-7 p.m. in St. Leo?s Catholic Church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Leo?s Cemetery, Casselton.
