Mary Joan Carroll Grove of Fargo, ND, died Monday, March 15, 2004, in Sun City, AZ. She was 83. She was preceded in death by parents Charles and Norah Carroll, and brother Eugene Carroll all of Billings, MT. MJ was born on December 23, 1920 in Billings, MT. After graduating from Billings High School and a successful career as a drum majorette, this spirited cowgirl attended the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN. There she met future husband, John M. Grove. They were married in St. Paul on October 31, 1942. After World War II, MJ and John settled in Fargo, where they raised their six children. They have lived in Fargo for 58 years. MJ, the most energetic and focused person we ever knew, made Fargo a better place through her efforts. She was active in PEO, Junior League, the Cass County Welfare Board, Heirlooms Hospice Store, Pink Smocks, St. John?s Hospital, Nativity?s annual Christmas dinner and the Antiquarian Club, among others. For 20 years, she and business partner Mary Ellen Maltry ran Grove-Maltry Estate Liquidators. Their sales were always the talk of the town. MJ is survived by John, husband of 61 years; her six children, John Jr. (Carmen Coyle) of Orono, MN, Katie of Bloomington, IN, Mark (Mary Grove) of Indianapolis, IN, Meg (Shane Albertson) of St. Paul, MN, Jane (Lauris Molbert) of Fargo, and Molly of St. Paul, MN; her six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and sister-in-law Noreen of Billings, MT. Visitation: Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, from 5-7 PM on Monday, March 22, 2004. Vigil service at 7 PM Monday. Funeral Mass: Church of the Nativity, Fargo, at 1 PM on Tuesday, March 23, 2004. Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo. Memorials are preferred to Heirloom Hospice Care, 1617 32nd Avenue South, Fargo, ND 58103. We will remember MJ for her vim, vigor and vitality!
