Bismarck, North Dakota
Resided in:
Fargo, North Dakota
Mary Jean Johs, age 76, of Fargo ND, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, surrounded by her family and the incredible team of doctors and nurses at Sanford that valiantly fought to keep her with us.
Mary Jean Kuhn was born on February 15, 1946, in Bismarck, ND, the daughter of John J. and Elda (Karius) Kuhn. Mary Jean (Jean to most) grew up on a farm North of Napoleon, ND. She met Edward “Eddie” Johs, also from Napoleon, and they married in 1968, staying together, until her passing.
In 1968 they also made the move to Fargo. They eventually built a house in Fargo and have lived there this entire time. In 1969 they welcomed their first son, Keith, and a few years later, in 1972, they welcomed a 2nd son, Brad. It was a busy time raising two very active boys, and Jean made sure to always keep them busy with a variety of sports and music lessons.
Later, as the boys became older, Jean worked part-time at Cash-Wise Foods in Fargo and stayed there for many years, enjoying the people she worked with and helping customers find their way around the endless aisles and counters. Jean was an excellent housekeeper and kept a very tidy house and garden. She always said that farm upbringing just “never let you slack”.
Eddie and Jean remained always active in their church, and thoroughly enjoyed the many trips they took across the country, especially once they both retired. Jean loved seeing new places, trying new foods.
Jean is survived by her husband, Eddie; her two sons – Keith (Bethany) of West Fargo, ND; and Brad of Savage MN; and her three grandchildren – Ashley, Derek and Olivia. Also surviving are her older brother, Roger (Bernie) Kuhn of Owtanna; her sisters – Marlene (Duane) Grensteiner of Fairmont, MN; and Bonnie (Jerry) Gross of Tulsa, OK; her sister-in-Law, Joyce Kuhn of Alabama; and a slew of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral & Visitation is being held at Nativity Catholic Church in Fargo. Visitation is from noon-2pm with the funeral starting at 2. A small mass will be held, burial services will be after at 4pm roughly.

So very sorry to hear of Jean’s passing. She was a good neighbor and friend to our parents and considered part of our family. She will be missed dearly and remembered forever.
