Mary Jo Wolf passed away Saturday, May 9, 2026, in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born March 25, 1954 to Cecil and Faye (Smith) Lawrence in Stanley, North Dakota. She attended Minot Public School and graduated from Minot High School in 1972. She went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in social work from Minot State University in 1995.

Around September of 1973, while working in the office at Home of Economy in Minot, Mary met Bob Wolf who was also employed there. As Mary would tell the story, they were formally introduced to each other by Father Ulrich Proeller who was making a purchase for his parish. While Bob was assisting him, Father asked several questions, one of which was if Mary was Catholic to which she answered yes. He turned to Bob, who was baptized at his parish, and said “well there you go Bobby, a nice Catholic girl for you!” And the rest was history. They were united in marriage on April 25, 1975.

Mary worked various jobs and volunteered at many places as the family relocated a couple of times, mostly in the fields of assisting the elderly and victims of abuse. She worked at the Americana Nursing Home in Minot and later worked and volunteered at Little Flower Catholic Church in Minot for about 14 years. In 2004, she was diagnosed with MS which led to her slowing down her activities.

When Mary and Bob moved and retired in West Fargo, they attended St. Joseph Parish in Moorhead, where Mary volunteered with St. Vincent DePaul conference until her health began to fail.

Mary enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, flowers, and most of all being with her family and grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her husband, Bob; children, Crystal (Geoff) Grout and Cameron (Amanda) Wolf; grandchildren, AJ Stein, Joseph Grout, Zachary Grout, Devin Wolf, and Kenzie Wolf; and sister, Doreen Johnson.

She is preceded by her parents and three sisters.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Mary started out as a coworker, and within a short time we became close friends. She taught me so much; and was always there during the most difficult times of my life. She gave me advice, taught me how to stand up for myself, and always shared her love and devotion to Bob, Crystal, Cameron, and their families. Her faith was an integral part of who she was, and she left this world a better place. Thoughts and prayers to all of you. 🙏🏻❤️

  2. What a beautiful witness Mary was to God and her family. Bless her heart and all those that love her.

  3. Floyd & Lynda Olonia, Minot, ND
In loving memory to our dear sweet Mary!

  4. I worked with Mary for years in Long Term Care and watched how her faith and kindness bright comfort to the family of residents, as well as strength to those of us who worked with her. I was also honored to consider her a friend. She was there for us in all times, good and not so much good. I loved her support, l loved her laugh, and I loved that she so loved her family and her faith. Rest well Mary.

  5. We are deeply saddened with the passing of your beloved Mary. Her love and presence brought so much joy and fulfillment over the years to you and your family.
May the many memories of Mary help you and your family find peace and comfort.

  7. I had the pleasure of doing Mary’s hair for over 25 years. She started out as a client and became a friend. Other than Christ, her family and friends were her life. I was blessed to have known her. I’m so sorry for your loss. What a beautiful person we all lost. Praying Gods peace and comfort over you all!

  8. I worked with Mary at Little Flower Church in Minot and can attest to the fact that no one told a story better than she did. I can still hear her giggling trying to get through some of the more humorous ones. Our sympathies to Bob and family. May she rest in peace in the comfort of Jesus’s arms.
