Mary Kay passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Sanford Health Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, surrounded by her loving family.

 

Mary Kay DeJardine was born on October 28, 1941, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Melzark) DeJardine. She grew up in Fargo and graduated from Shanley High School. Mary Kay later attended North Dakota State University. She worked in Minneapolis at Campbell Mithun before returning to Fargo in 1966. Mary Kay was united in marriage to Carlos “Gus” Nestler on September 5, 1964 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo. They made their home in Fargo where they raised their family.

 

Mary Kay’s life revolved around her family and friends who she was sure to be in contact with or call every day. She also loved spending summers at Many Point Lake.

Mary Kay is survived by her husband, Carlos “Gus” Nestler; her daughter, Tammy Nestler; her son, Carlos (Nicole) Nestler; and her grandchildren – Caden and Colten Nestler. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Robert.

 

Mary Kay’s family would like to offer a very special thank you to the nurses at Sanford Palliative Care, the staff at Roger Maris Cancer Center, and to the caregivers at Hospice of the Red River Valley.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
