Mary Lenz
December 20, 1944 ~ September 12, 2022
Mary Elizabeth Lenz, age 77, of Walcott, North Dakota passed away peacefully Monday, September 12, 2022, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo surrounded by her husband Charlie and family members.
Mary was born December 20, 1944, in Breckenridge, Minnesota. She married Charles Lenz on November 23, 1963. Of that union their beautiful daughter Rochelle was born July 4, 1972.
Mary attended school and graduated from St. Francis High School in Hankinson, ND. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Wahpeton for 9 years. Mary also worked at St. Catherine’s Home and the ND State School of Science in Wahpeton. She then pursued her cooking career in Walcott at their café.
Mary was a devoted Catholic, and an active member of St. Maurice’s Catholic Church in Kindred, ND. Family was always important to Mary, and she enjoyed family reunions to the fullest. Other activities that kept her busy were reading, card playing, crocheting, computer games, casinos, and being one of the “Great Ones” (Aunts). She was always smiling, and you seldom saw her apart from her best friend and husband Charlie.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Embert and Agnes Davis, brothers Laverne, Donovan, and James, sisters Corrine Gira and Pat Goerger, her in-laws Leo and Anna Lenz, their children Edmund, Roman, James, John, Margaret, Rosemary, and Lois, and her beloved daughter Rochelle Anna Betsch.
Mary is survived by her husband Charlie, granddaughter Abby, son-in-law David Betsch, her brothers Gerald and Embert, sisters Beatrice Foertsch and Doris Reimann, Charlie’s brothers Kenny and Joe and his sister Antoinette, along with sisters-in-law Rosie and Janet Lenz, and nieces, nephews, and their numerous friends who will all miss her dearly.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Sanford for their devoted care of Mary throughout the years. RIP beautiful lady.
Mary was a recipient of the organ donor program, and was a strong proponent for organ donation. In lieu of flowers, a donation to an organ donor program would honor Mary.

Charley and family we are so sorry for your loss. She will be missed.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you all.
Dear Charlie and family. I am thankful to have known Mary. She certainly made the world a happier place. Mary was one of the first people to welcome me when I joined Saint Maurices. Her homemade dressing at the annual turkey dinner fundraiser was always such a hit. Mary was a hard worker. I will miss her kindness, warm greetings and wonderful smile. Sending sincere sympathy.
