Mary Helen (Paintner) Rose was born on June 7th, 1930 at St. John’s Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Her mother, Minnie (Wells) died when Mary was born. She was raised by her father and several aunts and uncles.
Her father Joseph married Veronica Elizabeth Ethan in 1933 and she was raised by a loving step-mother.
Mary attended St. Anthony Church and St. Anthony grade school. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy (now Shanley) in 1948. She attended Dakota Business School.
Mary started working at the Fargo Veterans Hospital in 1947 until 1958 when she married a loving handsome man, William Rose. To this union, they had eight children.
Mary went back to work at the VA in 1976 and worked until 1998 when she retired as a medical administrative assistant. She was the Administrator on Duty during evening/night shifts. She was highly regarded and did all she could for the Veterans. She drove 40 miles each way and never missed a day of work. Being on the farm, she survived on little sleep, and sacrificed so much to care for her family.

She was lovingly cared for at home the last four months and died peacefully November 7th.
Special thanks to Ethos at-home hospice for coming out the day before she passed. A major thanks also to Valley Senior Services for providing transportation to appointments and also having access to Meals on Wheels.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, son Paul, her brother Joseph Jr. and nephews.

Sending out my condolences to you all, Mary & family. Hope I might get the chance to reconnect, after so many years, when you’re back. ❤️
Thank you Michelle! Would love to see you.
Such a beautiful lady both inside and out. I still remember her delicious brownies she would bring to the clinic for Charley’s birthdays. I know her loving memories will keep her forever close in your hearts.
Billy, Jim, Tim, Joe, Mary, Kathy and Charley, I’m so sorry for your loss. Prayers for peace at this difficult time. I have many great memories of visiting all of you either at your farm or ours. Wish I could be there to see everyone.❤️
Thank you Sheila. We will miss you.
To the family of Mary Rose …. isn’t that just a beautiful name for a lovely, kind beautiful soul ?
Our sincere sympathy to each one ….. I am remembering when your family stopped at our house
on your way home from the Winter Show in Valley City. It was an afternoon of popcorn and
playing.
Her kindness to the vets in the Veteran’s Hospital will always be special to those privileged to
receive and their families.
Mary Rose …. a long servant’s life….. may God’s peace surround each one !
Thank you Lana

Charley
My sympathy Charlie and family on the loss of your mother!!
Thank you Lana.
I am so sorry for the loss of your mother, Mary. I knew Mary many years working with her at the VA. I don’t think I know anyone else that was as calm and patient as Mary. She never got excited when things got chaotic. You never heard her say anything bad about another person. Those traits made it easy to learn from her. May she rest in well-earned peace.
Thank you Deb. Mom always talked highly of you.
Thank you Chris🙏
Absolutely, Donna!💔
Thoughts and prayers to the Rose’s. Your mom is with all other family members. May she rest in peace.
So sorry for your loss. Know I am sending prayers for Mary, Bill and all the family.
My mother use to refer to the Rose family as the “Walton’s “as they reminded her of the TV series at that time. She loved to visit them at their beautiful farm whenever she could. They were like Family to all of us.
I’ll never forget the wonderful Christmas we shared when the electricity when out and we brought our camping stove to finish the turkey and then the lights went back on. It was a very memorable Christmas that I will never forget.
Bill and Mary Rose raised a beautiful family and were model parents, grandparents and farmers. They worked hard in their community and portrayed the American dream with their high values of God, family and Country. It was a gift that we had the opportunity to have known and shared memories with them.
Our sincere Condolences to Billy, Tim, Jim, Joe ,Mary , Kathy and Charley. God Bless you all. Joan Schraufek , lisa Erickson, Lori Adams, Suzie Westerlund and Julie Szwejbka.
I worked Police/Security at the VA and worked many shift work with Mary, nothing got her riled up, I remember a Sunday afternoon when she called me to the front desk, very calmly she said a man is in the office over there and says he has a gun…didn’t faze her a bit. Well the situation was taken care of, but to this day I always think of how calm and easy going she was, it didn’t really bother her…at least she didn’t show it. My sympathy to all, she’ll be missed by all.

Dear Rose Family,
Your mom was a remodel for marriage, love of family, service, and faith. What a legacy she has left. May you be comforted by God’s love, faithfulness, and promises at this difficult time.
God Bless,
Lisa Erickson
Sorry to read about Mary. She was a very nice, helpful lady. She helped Dad and his VA problems. She will be missed by many. We send our sincere sympathy and prayers to all of the families.
I was just about ready to send a Christmas card when i discovered Mary had passed away. My mom Rose (Paintner) Deutschman had a special connection with her cousin Mary – maybe it was all the kids….and they both loved kids. When mom passed awy in January of 2022 i knew i had to tell Mary, but the phone number mom had didnt ring through. I mailed moms obituary and immediately Mary called. We talked and shared stories of the old days. Then the following May i was able to visit Mary and Charlie on the farm, share coffee and cookies and more stories. I had not visited the farm since i was a small boy. What i remember most is running wild in the fields with the Rose kids. Im sorry for your loss….never easy losing a parent.
