Mary Zeimetz

Mary Zeimetz, 98, Fargo, ND died Friday, June 13, 2008 in Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo, ND. Mary Bridget Zeimetz was born on November 24, 1909 in Wabasha, MN to Thomas and Winifred (McDonugh) Zeimetz. She graduated valedictorian from St. Felix High School in 1927, Wabasha, MN. She stayed at home on the farm and helped farm until she moved to Fargo in 1934 to work and attend Interstate Business College. She worked part-time at McKeller?s Garage as a bookkeeper while a student. She then worked 8 ? years at Fargo Glass and Paint Company. Her next career move brought her to Cass County Welfare Department (now Social Services) where she stayed for almost 30 years working under Winifred Stockman. She retired from there in 1974 but started working as a receptionist, secretary and bookkeeper at St. Mary?s Catholic Church for 10 years. She was active in serving funerals and helping to plan readings and music. She continued as a volunteer at St. Mary?s in the Steven?s Program for many years. Mary cared for her mother in her home until March 27, 1980 when her mother passed away one month short of her 104th birthday. Mary has been active in the Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters of the America?s, and the National Society of Foresters. In the 1930?s Mary was a charter member in St. Mary?s Catholic Credit Union. She was the 1st treasurer and later served in that post for many years. She was a member of the St. Mary?s Choir as well as attending Friday night Perpetual Adoration. Throughout the years, Mary was active in church classes that focused on the Bible or discussions of the Pope?s Encyclicals. She truly loved to pray the devotion to the ?Precious Blood of Jesus? daily. She started attending daily Mass after attending a mission. At the beginning, she would go just Saturday and Sunday, but found she could fit in Mass with her work schedule. Mary always said that she must have received more grace in order to accomplish this. Despite being legally blind, using a walker, and being 90 + years old, she had such a strong determination to receive our Lord that she went to Mass despite snow, wind, sleet, or any weather condition. Mary will be remembered for her joyful and wry wit and her exceptional ability to memorize up until her last days. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and godchildren. She is preceded by her parents; four brothers: Lawrence, Joseph, William Edward, John Isadore; one sister: Margaret; two nieces: Teresa Bonafide and Joan Zeimetz; and two nephews: Allen Michael Zeimetz and Thomas Joseph Zeimetz. Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary?s Cathedral. Rosary: 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary?s Cathedral Catholic Daughters. Prayer Service 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary?s Cathedral. Funeral Mass: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary?s Cathedral. Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery North, Fargo, North Dakota
