Matthew Edland

Matthew Donald Edland was born on November 25, 1957 in Cooperstown, ND to Russell and Lorraine (Lunde) Edland. He graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1976. Matt attended Valley City State University and received his BS in Industrial Education and an AA in Graphic Communications. He attended Kent State University, Kent, OH, for his MA in Industrial Technology. He returned to North Dakota to begin his career. Matt worked in Fargo at Western States Life, MeritCare Hospital, Promersberger Company, Dictaphone Corporation and US Bank before his current position at Valley City State University as an Instructor for the 1st Online Technology Education program in the nation to prepare teachers for the classroom. Matt had recently accepted a tenure position at VCSU. Matt, with his wife Marylou, owned and operated Five By Five Photography, which specialized in weddings and Senior graduations. Matt was a riverboat captain for the Riverkeepers, he coached baseball and football on his son?s teams, and served on the board of the FM Athletic Association. Matt loved sailing and hoped to someday retire on a boat sailing the Caribbean. Matt took up running a year ago and was in training for Grandma?s Marathon when he died. On September 20, 1986 Matt married the love of his life, Marylou Leier of Orrin, ND. They had three children whom he adored, Jacob (13), Grant (10) and Emily (8). Matt is survived by loving family, his wife, Marylou of Fargo, and their children, Jacob, Grant and Emily; his mother, Lorraine (Alvin) Boe of Bemidji, MN; his sisters, Candy Edland and Kaia Edland, both of Bemidji; his stepbrothers, Tom (Connie) Boe of Clear Lake, MN, and Scott (Cathy) Boe of Colorado Springs, CO; and many very special nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his in-laws, Albert and Alice Leier of Orrin; and grandparents-in-law, Eblena Reiter and George Leier, both of Rugby, ND; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Lorilee (Kurt) Kaplan of Minot, ND, LeeAnn (John) Seil of Williston, ND, LeeAllen (Bekki) Leier of Rugby; Marlene (Rick) Hoffart of Portland, OR, Terry (Debbie) Leier of Minot, Wayne (Annette) Leier of Orrin, and Jodi (Anthony) Larson of Hettinger, ND, and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell. Matt passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, in Fargo, at the age of 46. Visitation: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Friday in Sts. Anne and Joachim Catholic Church in Fargo, and one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Saturday. Prayer Service: 7:30 p.m. Friday in the church. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Sts.
