Mavis (Bunn) Johnson pass away peacefully at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND on April 20, 2023.

Mavis was born just outside Sheldon, ND to Alma and Peter Bunn on September 29, 1926. She was the eldest of three sisters and one brother. She was married to Earl Johnson on November, 16 1947 and raised two daughters, Linda and Darlene.

Mavis was a very hard worker both on the farm growing up, and in the home years later. She swore she could fix anything with a piece of scrap wire and a roll of duct tape.

She was a care provider for all throughout her life. Taking care of Earl’s aging parents, both of her daughters as they fought health issues, and provided full time daycare for her grandson Shaune. She also loved her kitties Deedee, Mosh, Jasper, and Smoky.

Mavis and Earl loved traveling in their camper on the weekends. Either out west to Medora, or wherever their girls, or Jim (Linda’s husband), were playing softball that week. Once retired, both Earl and Mavis took up both bowling and golf where they met many friends. When golfing, Earl always said Mavis may not have hit the ball far, but it was always straight down the middle of the fairway!

After Earl passed in 2004, Mavis remained a very independent woman and remained in her home alone. She was mowing grass and blowing her own snow well into her 90’s. (We had to take the ladder away from her to keep her from cleaning the gutters) She even drove herself to the hairdresser until she was 94. She truly was a loving, caring person that will be missed by all that knew her.

Mavis is survived by her daughter Darlene (Richard) Redfield, son-in-law Jim Hirchert, grandsons Shaune (Veronica) Redfield and Chris (Amanda) Hirchert, great-grandchildren Easton Redfield, Morgan and Peyton Hirchert, and sisters Ruby Johanneson, Beverly Otterson, and Betty (Richard) Braatland.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, brother Lynn, and daughter Linda.
