Melissa Schwartz

Melissa’s service will be livestreamed and viewable below starting at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 17:

Melissa “Wendy” Rowena Schwartz, 63, passed away on June 18, 2026, at Sanford Health Hospital, Fargo, surrounded by love and comfort from her devoted husband. Melissa was born on July 25, 1962, to Maria (Lerma) and Marino Silva Jr., in the Philippines where her life began. She moved to Los Angeles, California, as a teenager, where her family built their life in the United States.

In the Midwest, Melissa met her soulmate, Stephen Schwartz, on a blind date, and they were inseparable ever since. They tied the knot in 2001 on a cold winter day in Island Park. Together, they created a warm and inviting home in the Fargo area, where she enjoyed a rewarding career as a postal carrier and making many friendships along the way.

Melissa found joy in the simple pleasures of life—her love for reading, her cherished TV shows including “I Love Lucy”, and the laughter she shared with Stephen over dinner dates, often at Kobes, where her favorite dish was always Uni. She was a woman who embraced life with enthusiasm and delight, but her greatest joy came from her family. Melissa and Stephen truly enjoyed each other’s company and embodied what a marriage should always be.

Melissa is survived by her beloved husband, Stephen; her siblings, Monica Silva, Marty Silva, Bernadette Owens, and Isabelle Pena; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will carry her memory in their hearts. She is preceded in death by her parents, who she adored.
