Melvin M. Bergh, 89, formerly of Kindred, died Sunday, December 31, 2006 at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Fargo, ND. Melvin was born June 24, 1917 in rural Kindred, ND to Nels and Birgliette Bergh. He went to the Barrie # 2 Country School in rural Kindred. Afterwards, he attended Wahpeton State School of Science, Wahpeton, ND. From 1940 to 1950 he boxed in various tournaments across North Dakota. Melvin won the North Dakota Golden Gloves Light Weight Championship. Melvin farmed and ranched in Richland County, rural Kindred. He married Irene Thompson, December 27, 1954 in Fargo. The couple farmed and ranched in rural Kindred. Melvin moved to the Halstad Nursing Home, Halstad, ND in 2000 and in 2001 moved to the Villa Maria Nursing of Fargo. Melvin is survived by his wife, Irene, sons Duane (Sandy) Bergh, Seattle, WA, Bill Bergh, Kindred, Lester Bergh, Kindred, and Michael Bergh, Sidney, MT and step-sons Jerry (Judy) Thompson, Longview, WA, and Roy (Esther) Thompson, Seattle, WA, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Halvor and Herman and sisters Mattie, Galia, Alice, Nellie, Clara and Henrietta and his daughter Polly McMichael who passed away December 2005. The funeral service for Melvin will Friday, January 5, 2007 at 2:00pm at Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, ND. The prayer service will be Thursday, January 4th at 7:00pm with visitation from 5-7:00pm at the Fredrikson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Gol Cemetery, rural Kindred, ND.
