Michael (Mick) Boyd Pflugrath, age 93, of Horace, North Dakota, passed away on June 20, 2026, at Sanford Health in Fargo. Michael was born on April 6, 1933, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to the late Michael and Catherine (Volk) Pflugrath.
Mick graduated in 1951 from Wahpeton High School and subsequently earned an associate’s degree in Diesel Mechanics from Wahpeton State School of Science.
Mick was united in marriage to Patricia (Pat) Brown from Bismarck, ND on August 7, 1954. The made their home in Wahpeton, ND where they started their family. Mick worked alongside his father at Pflugrath and Sons Ford Tractor Co. In 1959 Mick went to work for Wahpeton Construction where, in 1964, he met his future employers from the Thompson Stolee Co. In 1966 Mick and Pat moved their family to Fargo, ND where Mick ultimately found his true calling as an entrepreneur, starting and leading Northern Water Works Supply, GPK Products, Northern Pipe Products, and Northern Micro. He was a pioneer in the PVC industry bringing rural water to remote parts of ND and surrounding areas. Upon his retirement he sold Northern Pipe Products to Ottertail Power Co. He maintained his ownership of GPK Products with his children until 2007 when his shares were purchased by his children. He rejoined the board at GPK Products in 2017 where he continued to serve as the Chairman of the Board until his passing.
His dedication to his businesses and his desire to impart knowledge to the next generation were central to his life’s work. He and his wife Pat were especially proud of the legacy company GPK Products, they founded and have since passed to the 3rd generation.
Mick and Pat loved to travel and went on many worldwide adventures from which they carry fond memories. Mick found great joy tending to his “hobby” farm and tree claim, diligently working on his tractors and assisting during harvests. He enjoyed spending time with his family celebrating life’s milestones. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Pflugrath; his children, Gretchen (Virgil) Hoffman, Catherine Pflugrath (Yuval Salz); his grandchildren, Jon (Melissa) Hoffman, Joe (Nicole) Hoffman, Doug (Katie) Hoffman, Sarah (Hernando) Caicedo; and his great grandchildren, who affectionately called him Papa GG, Mia, Everly, Cora, Ava, Harper, Hadlee, Briggs, Carter, and Colton Hoffman.

Mick was a wonderful person. I enjoyed the many years of caring for their families’ home. I remember many sit down conversations with Mick about life and current events.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
Kevin.
Cathy, Gretchen and family: sending my condolences on the loss of your father. It is very big piece of a daughters heart she holds for man who walks beside her through life’s challenges and celebrations…I remember losing my own father many years ago this same time of year, and how you both reached out to help me through my loss. Thank you and please know I will be thinking of you all, especially on this day! Teresa Haider
What’s even crazier is when I met my husband Tom we find out Mick was classmate of Pat Shorma and they knew the Shormas really well! Ed Shorma told me the story of how he taught your mother Pat how to make a military bed you could bounce a quarter off! And of all things on your parent’s wedding night. Now that sounds exciting! lol.
Lots of memories when you used to come out to our lake cabin on Lida and the trip I took with Gretchen, Pat, and my mom to Minneapolis! We had an absolute blast!
Tom remembers when he met Gretchen and some friends at NDSCS college! I think it involved some “socializing” and a car in a ditch. Sorry if you are reading this Pat and didn’t know! Haha. But I’m sure you’ve heard the story.
Pat and Pflugrath Family, ❤️
Heartfelt sympathy and prayers to you and all your family in the loss of Mick. Our family shares fond memories of our get together’s with Mick and your family and Paul Schmidt (my dad) and our family. The two men were excellent business partners with Northern Water Works for many years. Mick spearheading in Fargo and Paul in Bismarck.
Mick will be forever loved, remembered and missed. 🙏🕊️🌿
Sincere Condolences,
