Bruns, age 66, of Fargo, ND passed on peacefully Monday, February 15th 2021, at Sanford Health Hospital due to complications from a past racing accident in 2016. Mike was born May 25, 1954, in Moorhead, MN, to his biological father Ernie Cossette and Victoria (Schnoor) Bruns. Vickie married Ray Bruns when Mike was three. In 1971 Mike changed his last name to Bruns, to honor Ray. He attended Fargo South High School and started racing in 1971 in his hobby stock. In 1975 he started racing a latemodel and in 1989 he switched to an A mod. Mike started racing both his late model and A mod in the early 2000’s. Mike had an amazing racing career of 42 plus years. His racing career ended July 15th 2016 due to a racing accident at I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN Mike owned/operated Mike Bruns Radiator and Muffler. Mike married Debbie (Richard) on April 2, 1994, in Fargo, ND. The couple lived in Fargo for their entire married life of 26 years and had 5 children and 9 grandchildren. Mike got his nickname the “Flyin 42” in 1976 when he flew off the third corner at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN. Mike flew 12 feet into Nodland Construction building. It was marked the worst wreck in the 12-year history at the Viking Speedway. He was on the board of Minn-Kota Racing Association. In the early 90’s he set the track record of 19 seconds in his A mod on the half mile at the Red River Valley Speedway. In October 2016, Mike was inducted into the Lisbon Championship Racing Hall of Fame. Mike is survived by his wife, Debbie Bruns, Frontier, ND; children, Stephanie (Donny) Hussey, Michael Jr. (Tracey) Bruns, Jessica (Shawn) Halverson, Shane (Tayler) Bruns, Amy (William) Hagman; 9 grandchildren; mother, Victoria Bruns; siblings, Debbrah Olson, Melody (Kirk) Matheson, John Bruns, Victoria (Philip) Maenza, Richard Bruns and Vanessa Wedell, Robert (Angie) Bruns, and Timothy Bruns. He was preceded in death by his father, Raphael Bruns.

  1. Sorry to hear of this! We used to get together on Saturdays at Rick’s Bar & Grill for the Free chili and grab A beer an lunch! Great conversations at our table. We will miss you! You can now rest in peace! My deepest condolences to the Family.

  15. We have the best memories of FUN racing days with the Bruns family. We laughed hard, worked hard, raced hard, but our favorite part was the pure joy we had cheering each other on. The Ace Chassis Racing Teams. Thank you for the memories, thank you to Ernie Brokins, and Jim Sahr, for keeping us moving forward in those days!! I pray God would bless all your days going forward Debbie!! If there was ever a wife who deserved the “wife of the year award ” it is you. You blessed that boys heart.   16. Have known Mike for many years . Way back to when they lived out by the Eagles so. Fargo. Worked on our Radiator once too . Was a good hearted guy . You went doing something you totally loved . Rest in peace big guy .

  17. I’m so sorry to learn of Mike’s passing. My deepest condolences to Mike’s family and friends. I was Mike’s UPS driver when he worked for his parents shop and when he went on his own. Mike was always very good to me. I’ll have you in my thoughts and prayers. Take care and God Bless. RIP Mike.
