January 25, 1953 ~ December 30, 2025

Born in: Benson, Minnesota
Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Michael Ivan Cummins, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at Hearts in Action (HIA) Hospice, Heather’s House after a long battle with congestive heart failure. He was 72.

Mike was born on January 25, 1953 in Benson, MN and raised in Moorhead and Becker County lakes country, where from a young age he worked alongside his parents, Virgil and Elsie, and his sisters at Lake Eunice Resort (now TJ’s Bistro). After graduating from Audubon High School, he pursued a career in the engineering field. Mike was known for his strong work ethic and was a trusted colleague to many during his time with American Crystal Sugar, Moore Engineering, and Houston Engineering.

On October 19, 1974, Mike married Mary Beth Nordhougen, with whom he had three children. Even after their divorce, Mary Beth clearly remained a very special person to Mike. He shared Mary Beth’s devotion to their kids and was a fixture at their track meets, softball games, and school activities in the 1990s and beyond, calmly supporting his children win or lose.

A lifelong sportsman, there was nothing Mike enjoyed more than hunting and fishing with the people he loved. Together, Mike and his family filled dozens of deer tags, sighted in countless rifles, and nabbed the largest walleye ever caught on Lake Eunice (probably).

His stories about lakes country lore were hilarious, mostly true, and will be passed down as generations of Cumminses, Tabors, and Schneiders gather on the shores of Lake Eunice in the decades to come.

In addition to Mary Beth, Mike is survived by his sisters, Patti Cummins, Robin Busch (Steve), Joyce Grahn (Craig), and Pam Olson (Tom); his children, Angela Cummins (Kevin Tabor), Crystal Schneider (Mac), and David Cummins; as well as his grandchildren, Charles and Henry Tabor, Merritt and Cameron Schneider and Kolt Cummins and Tori Fischer. His family will miss him, but they will not forget him.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at the Cormorant Lakes Sportsman’s Club, 18587 Sportsman Rd, Audubon, MN 56511 at 1:00p.m. on January 31, 2026. All are welcome to attend, share a story about Mike, and judge his record-setting walleye with their own eyes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to HIA Hospice of Fargo.
