Born January 23, 1919, in Amiret, MN, to Arthur and Alma Manke, she attended school in Amiret, MN, before moving to Minneapolis, MN. Here she met and married Walter J. Mangen on November 26, 1938, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Minneapolis, MN.
Millie was employed by White Auto Court for eight years and by Dakota Hospital Food Services for 15 ? years. She retired in 1984. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW.
She enjoyed spending time at the lakes with her family and loved cooking and baking. We will never forget the wonderful meals she prepared and the table she so meticulously set. She took great pride in herself and lived her life with class. Her relationship with our Lord and Holy Cross Catholic Church meant a great deal to her. She developed many special friendships during her years at The Fairmont, as she was a dear friend to many. As a mother she taught her daughters to be strong. She is loved and admired for her courageous strength throughout her life. As a sister she will be remembered for her infectious laugh and zest for life. She always made sure the cookie jar was full for her grandchildren. Treasured are the conversations and the special times they spent together. Millie was a devoted wife to Wally and the bond so strong between the two that she left us on the same day as he, five years later.
She is survived by three daughters, Kay Heltemes, Walkersville, MD, Judy (Richard) Olsen, Pelican Rapids, MN, and Jan (Tom) Vacha, Fargo; one sister, Viola Pochardt, Marshall, MN; one brother, Marvin Manke, Sioux Falls, SD; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wally; her son, James; her parents; and one sister, Bernice Markham.
