Missy was born on April 7, 1947 in Bradford, PA to Mildred and Carl Goodman. After graduation from Bradford High School, Missy studied at University of Pittsburgh at Bradford as well as Wayne State University in Detroit, MI where she received her master's degree in Speech Communication, Theater, and Journalism, in1981.

After graduation, Missy, with her former husband, Ken, moved to St. Cloud, MN where she taught as a Communications Department professor at St. Cloud State University. While in St. Cloud, Kimberly and Matt were adopted within years of each other from South Korea to extremely proud parents. In 1988, Missy began a 14-year teaching career at Fergus Falls Community College in Fergus Falls, MN.

Missy and Dave were married in 1990 and relocated to Fargo where they had lived until moving to Moorhead, MN in 2007. After starting toward a doctorate degree at North Dakota State University, in 2002, Missy began retirement early due to disability.

Missy was a member of the Temple Beth El in Fargo. She loved travelling, reading, cooking, gardening, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.

Missy is survived by her husband, Dave; daughter, Kimberly; son, Matt; grandchildren, Corrine, Layne, and Mauer; brothers, Stan (Jan) Goodman and Gary (Marilyn) Goodman, both of California; aunt and uncle, Peg and Nathan Glazer of Houston; cousin Mike (Carolyn) Kalish of Fargo; as well as several cousins, nephews, and nieces, located throughout the country. Missy is preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Carl, as well as her step-daughter, Brianna "Brandy" Nowak.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm at the Temple Beth El, 809 11TH AVE S in Fargo, ND on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, officiated by Rabbi Janeen Kobrinsky. A private burial will be conducted prior to the Memorial Service at Beth El Memorial Park in Fargo.

The family requests that, instead of floral contributions, any donations be made to the Temple Beth El in Fargo. Finally, Missy's immediate family would like to thank Missy's many friends and neighbors for all of your support and friendship over the past years.

Memories Timeline

  1. Daytona Beach FloridaI am sorry to learn of the passing of my cousin, Missy. I had called her a bit back and talked to her for a while. She told me that she had some health problems at that time. I grew up in Bradford, Pa. also. I used to go over to Missy’s house in the early 60’s and we would play records. We had a good time. My sympathy goes out to Missy’s family, my cousins Stan and Gary and their families and all of Missy’s friends and admirers. Missy will be remembered as an outgoing, fun-loving person.

    Dave, Kimberly, and Matthew,

I just learned about Missy’s death. It has been awhile since seeing Missy in St. Cloud, but the last time I saw her she was full of news about her wonderful children and husband. Life was so perfect for her.

We had good times together. Kimberly, I remember you coming over to our house for Adrienne’s 4th birthday party, after which we had a fire in our kitchen! Dave, I remember meeting you when you and Missy stopped by.

We had such good times while she was at SCSU. I will miss her.
