Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Mitchell Curtis Irmen passed away on June 20th, 2026 after an almost decade-long battle with cancer. He was 65 years old.

Mitchell was born on June 19th, 1961 to Arthur and Alberta (Klumph) Irmen in New Rockford, North Dakota. He graduated from New Rockford High School in 1979, where he enjoyed playing baseball. Mitchell graduated from North Dakota State University in 1985 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. While at NDSU, he participated in Army ROTC. Mitch was commissioned and served in the United States Army Reserves with the 439th Engineer Battalion in Bismarck, North Dakota, and later as a section commander for 793rd Engineer detachment in Minot, North Dakota.

Mitchell married Heidi Fleming in New Rockford on July 16th, 1988. Together they made their home in Fargo, North Dakota and raised three children. Some of his favorite memories were getting his children involved in sports, coaching youth athletics, and fostering a love of travel from an early age. His travels took him to all 50 states as well as numerous countries around the world.

Mitchell was known by his family and friends for his dry sense of humor, generosity, and wit. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends, watching NDSU football and Boston Red Sox baseball, and spending time with those he loved.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years Heidi Irmen; children, Alex Irmen, Aaron (Chelsea) Irmen, and Sarah (Chad) Peterson; grandson Barrett Mitchell Peterson; siblings, Susan (Roger) Carmody, Tom (Nancy) Irmen, Rita Irmen, and Jackie (Bruce) Krebasch; Brother in law, Darryl Galt; Sister in law, Andrea Irmen.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My condolences to the family. When losing a loved one it can be unbearable. In the Bible book of Isaiah 25:8 Jehovah God promises soon to “swallow up death forever.” He also promises to bring back those who have fallen asleep in death (Acts 24:15). In the near future while longer this kind of pain will be a thing of the past (Revelations 21:4). May these scriptures bring you comfort in this difficult time.

  2. So very sorry to hear about Mitch’s passing. He was my wife’s youngest brother and I was aware of his health problems. My wife Carol passed away in April, 2021 and I haven’t seen much of Mitch nor Heidi over the last few years. My sincere thoughts and prayers will be with Heidi and the family.

    Love,

    Darryl
