With sadness, we share that Monica Webster passed peacefully in her home on November 21, 2024, at the age of 62.
Monica Ruth Erickson was born September 8, 1962, and lovingly adopted by Clemens and Nina (née Vanderzee) Erickson of Kindred, North Dakota.
A 1980 graduate of Kindred High School, Monica continued her education in the Nursing Program at NDSSS and began her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1981. She found her true calling and talent as a hospice nurse, where she spent the last 18 years of her career.
Monica met Gregg Webster at Red Willow Bible Camp in 1987, and they married on April 9, 1988. They enjoyed 36 years of marriage, and raised their 3 children together on their farm outside of Hillsboro, ND. While active in the local community, Monica and Gregg were also able to travel extensively.
Monica was proud of her Lutheran heritage. She was baptized and confirmed as a member of Gol Lutheran Church in rural Kindred. Later, Monica actively served in the church, including chairing the Synod Candidacy Committee for the ELCA of Eastern North Dakota.
Food preparation and entertaining guests brought a lot of joy to Monica. Many have described her as very “welcoming.” She personally designed her kitchen and dining room in her Hillsboro home to provide the space for many memorable gatherings of family, friends, acquaintances, and guests. Monica’s culinary skills were greatly enhanced through her attendance at cooking schools in New Orleans.
Monica was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014. Though the initial breast cancer and four subsequent metastatic tumors in her brain resulted in many medical treatments, Monica refused to let cancer hold her back. She was an active participant in several support groups and continued to travel, including several trips to New Orleans and a trip to Germany.
Remaining to cherish Monica’s memory are her spouse, Gregg; children, Chris Erickson and fiancé, Ashlee Mader; daughter, Ashley Webster and husband, Michael Hanson; daughter, Rachel Schaefer and husband, Chris Schaefer; grandchildren, Nicole Erickson, Montana Racette, Clay Mader, Calvin Erickson, and Eleanor Schaefer.
Preceding Monica in death are her father, Clemens Erickson, and mother, Nina Vanderzee Erickson.

Monica was such a kind soul. Gregg took such loving care of her through this long battle. Every Christmas we were blessed with her candied pecans and sweet corn in the summer. Prayers to the family She will be missed!

You have my sincere sympathy. I met Monica in church many years ago and really loved her personality.
I had the privilege of working with Monica at Hospice (HRRV) for years. She was kind, encouraging and an excellent nurse. I admired her strength while going through her initial battle with cancer. Her determination to be able to keep on with grace and dignity was such an inspiration! I have kept her in my heart & prayers daily. My heart goes out to Monica’s loving family. So sorry for your loss. Monica grew up right next door in Kindred. I am sure her love for her family and friends will be her lasting legacy. Such a loving person.

I most remember Monica from childhood days. She was so sweet. Taken way too soon from her family. May God bring peace and comfort to her family and friends.

Although we never met Monica in person, the years of remembering her in “Gideon Prayers” was a constant reminder of her presence within the Gideon community of the Dakotas. May God grant you peace during this difficult time and a remembrance of what Christ has done for us in making that peace possible.

Monica was 1980 KHS classmate of mine. Although we haven’t remained in touch, I remember her well and mourn her loss. She left us way too soon….RIP Monica.
Monica was a classmate of mine, we were in 4 H together. She invited me over to her home in kindred and her parents were amazing too. I won tickets to a concert and I tried to give them to her, she wanted me to go with, but my parents wouldn’t let me. She felt bad about me not going and tried to include me in other ways. So much fun with her and Wanda. Hard to believe those years flew by. She always had wanted to be a nurse and so glad that her dream came true. RIP and prayers to her family.

We are sorry for you loss! May our God of comfort, comfort your family now! I worked with Monica at hospice of r.r.v. and enjoyed our visits there. She will be missed on earth,then we meet again with Jesus!
