Monty E. Scherer Sr., 75, Fargo passed away Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Essentia Health, Fargo. Monty was born October 22, 1945 in Hazen, ND to Ray and Reha (Gutknecht) Scherer. He graduated from Hazen High School before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. He moved to Fargo after his discharge and married Diane Wetch on October 12, 1974. They made their home in Fargo where Monty worked at SuperValue Warehouse for 30+ years, retiring in 2007. One of Monty’s passions was fishing, and he enjoyed being able to pursue that hobby whenever he could. He was a life-long Minnesota Vikings fan. He loved to spend as much time as he could with his beloved grandchildren and his dogs. He was a friendly, easy going person and enjoyed being able to talk to anyone. He will be missed by those he leaves behind. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Diane, Fargo, ND; children, Dottie (Brian) Schuchard, Fargo, ND, Kimberly Scherer, Fargo, ND, Monty (Mae Loni) Scherer Jr., Pelican Rapids, MN, Shawn Scherer, Fargo, ND; 7 grandchildren, Amber Schuchard, Tyler Schuchard, Madison Pinfold, Mason Lyles, Treyton Lyles, Dillon Scherer and Shawn Scherer Jr.; 4 great-grandchildren, Karmen, Cullen, Ravenna, Radke; 3 brothers, Ardis (Eldora) Scherer, Minneapolis, MN, Tim (Sharon) Scherer, WI and David (Cathy) Scherer, SD. Monty was preceded in death by his parents. Celebration of Monty’s Life: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with visitation starting at 10:00 A.M. Masks are required at the service and social distancing will be observed.
