In Loving Memory of Nathan Anthony Ray
Nathan Anthony Ray, beloved husband and father, son and friend passed away January 20, 2024.
Nathan’s intense spirit and unwavering faith animated those around him.
Strength, generosity, intelligence – these qualities defined Nate. He exemplified a man who was devoted to his wife and children, and also someone who expressed his thoughts and emotions with honesty and authenticity. His unapologetic faith was at the core of his being, evident through his personal virtue, love and support for his parish family, loyalty to his many friends, and generous service to anyone in need. Nate’s sacrificial love and devotion for his family and friends knew no bounds, and his presence in their lives will forever be cherished.
After completing his education at Central Cass in Casselton, North Dakota in 2005, Nate pursued his passion for mechanics at North Dakota State College of Science, where he graduated in 2007 as a skilled diesel mechanic. He dedicated his professional life to Premier Service Center, where he thrived as a foreman and diesel mechanic, leaving an indelible, albeit mischievous, mark on his colleagues and the community.
Nate had a love for the outdoors including cooking, fishing, butchering, and riding motorcycle. It was his dream to build a homestead with his family and to live off the land. His talents extended beyond mechanics and troubleshooting; he was an adept blacksmith and a true grilling connoisseur, delighting his loved ones with his culinary prowess.
In this tremendous loss, let us remember Nate as a man who lived with passion, cherished his loved ones, and remained steadfast in his faith. His memory will forever be etched in our hearts, inspiring us to live our lives well before God, and to the fullest, just as he did.
Nate is survived by his wife, Sara and children, Charlotte, Thomas, Susanna, John; parents, Brian and Karen Otteson; sisters, Brianna (DJ) Halverson, Brooke Otteson; niece, Emersyn Halverson; grandparents, Virginia Pratschner, Neil and Karen Otteson, Ron and Joan Ray; father and mother-in-law, Lanny and Donna Baer, brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeremy (Christina) Baer, Emily (Justin) Jasper, Matthew (Katy) Baer, Ashley (Mike) Trujillo, Andrew Baer, Hannah (Ivan) Fisk, Philip Baer, Dominic Baer, CelineMarie (Peter) Haynos; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren.
Nathan was preceded in death by his two unborn children, Molly and Germain; and grandparents, Donnie Rowe and Leo Pratschner.

Dear Sarah and family,
Please know of my deepest condolences on the passing of Nathan. Words fail in times like these – we can only turn to Jesus Crucified who entered into our deepest suffering and gave it redemptive meaning and value. May the Lord Jesus who died and rose for Nathan bring you strength, peace, and hopeful consolation at the heart of your sorrow. I celebrated a Mass for his repose and one for you and the family over the last few days at the request of someone who is praying for you. I will offer my Mass today for Nathan – may he enter fully into the eternal kingdom of life in God. I will continue to pray for you and all affected by his death in the days ahead. May God bless you.
MAY THE GOD OF ALL COMFORT BE WITH YOU AT THE DIFFICULT HOURS AND DAYS TO COME. May our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ walk with you all and give you the peace of knowing Nathan is there with him.
