Nina Jean Quick (89) passed away peacefully on May 25, 2018, at Eventide in Moorhead Minnesota. Nina Jean was born on July 16, 1928 on a farm near Park Rapids Minnesota to Albert and Gladys (Gilchrist) Schraw. Jean grew up helping on the family's dairy farm, swimming in a lake on the farm, picking wild berries and chasing cows through the woods. She attended Emmaville School where she graduated from the 8th grade, then completed 10th grade at Park Rapids High School. She then moved to St Paul with a sister, where they performed domestic work. After attending business college in the Twin Cities, she moved to Fargo where she managed payroll and performed other office work for local businesses including Dakota Plate Glass. On August 25, 1961 she married Harold Quick and they made their home in Fargo. They had two children: Denise and Terry. In 1971, the family moved to an acreage north of Moorhead, where Jean raised a very large garden. She shared her vegetable harvests with numerous friends and relatives, as well as preserving food for the winter. Jean also enjoyed making quilts, especially individualized hand-embroidered baby quilts. In 1991, she and Harold took the trip they had talked about for years - a six week driving trip through Alaska. In 2005 they moved into a condo in Dilworth and in 2013 to Fairmont assisted living in Moorhead. She then moved to Eventide in Moorhead in 2015. Jean's church fellowship was very important to her. She valued studying her Bible and attending meetings with her community of fellow-believers. Survivors include her husband, Harold, children Denise Quick and Terry (Nancy) Quick, grandchildren Jamey (Cheryl), Mason, Lee and Jill Quick, brother Al Schraw, sister Hazel Schraw and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Memories Timeline

  1. Jean was always known for making gran-kids baby quilts. And putting their names on them. The kids loved them & some carried them around until they were in schreds! She always had a welcome open home & love for us all!!! She loved her garden!!!! Glad she is at peace now with no more struggles. She was a faithful special lady.

  2. Thinking of Harold and Denise and Terry these days. I am so glad I stopped by to see her last week. With sincere sympathy.

  3. Sending my sincerest condolences and warmest thoughts of comfort and peace to Harold and the entire family. I have so many cherished memories of Jean and she truly was like a grandmother to me. I still have my baby blanket and my graduation quilt is on my bed. Every time I saw Jean I got a hug and a “how’s my girl”. I remember having my first cup of coffee in her kitchen and she let me put in as much cream and sugar as I wanted! Her date bread is still the best I have ever had. I was so lucky to grow up with Harold and Jean as neighbors and friends. Jean was a special woman and will be deeply missed but her kindness and love will definitely never be forgotten.

  4. I can see that you’ve taken after her, Denise, in your love of gardenin…, and I imagine in kindness and thoughtfulness as well. So very sorry to all the family.
