Oliva Sauvageau

Oliva J (Savy) Sauvageau, 93, Fargo, ND died Thursday, May 18, 2006 in Ramsey, MN in his daughters home under the care of Hospice.
Oliva the son of Joseph and Louisa (Rivard) Sauvageau was born October 26, 1912 on a farm near Wild Rice, ND. He grew up on the family farm and attended school at St. Benedict and Wild Rice. Oliva worked on the family farm and for neighboring farmers. During the 1930's he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in North Dakota and Arkansas. He returned to the farm and later attended the Wahpeton State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND earning a degree in auto body repair. Oliva moved to Fargo and began working for Micthell Chevrolet. Oliva married Mildred L. Anderson Sept. 18, 1937 in St. Benedict Church in Wild Rice, ND They lived in Berkeley CA from 1942 until l945 where Oliva worked in the shipyards during WWII. The couple returned to Fargo. Mr. Sauvageau worked as an auto body man for Kiefer Chevrolet later Offut Chevrolet where he worked until his retirement in 1977. He is survived by three daughters, Kathryn Kanwischer, Fargo, ND, Karen (Paul) Jahnke, Champlin, MN and Mary (David) Brusven, Ramsey, MN. A brother Thomas (Ernestina) Sauvageau, Jalisco, Mexico, 11grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 52 years; his parents; 5 sisters and 5 brothers; and son-in-law, Robert Kanwischer.
Oliva enjoyed spending as much time as possible at his lake cabin on Big Floyd Lake, near Detroit Lakes MN. He was an avid golfer , reader and a Minnesota Twins Baseball fan.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, May 23, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo, ND
Visitation: Monday May 22 from 5:00 until 7:00p.m. in the Church with a Prayers Service at 7:00 p.m. in the Church. And one hour before the service on Tuesday.
Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo, ND
Memorials are preferred to Fargo Senior Commission, Inc.
