  1. So shocked and sorry to hear the news. He was a great guy all through the years at Steele and beyond. May he rest in peace.

  2. Diane and Family,
So sorry to hear of O’Neil’s passing. May all your wonderful memories bring you comfort and peace.

  3. !O’Neil’s family, I am sorry to hear that he has passed on, you have my sympathy and condolences , I was the recruiter who enlisted him into the Happy Hooligans and served with him for over 20 years, at the time of his enlistment we were very glad to be getting a qualified medical technician in his position. He served with honor for many years. Fly High, Old Friend, Fly High.

  4. So sorry to see O’Neil passed. I served with him with the Happy Hooligan’s. Always a very pleasant gentleman. We enjoyed our conversations at the Auger Inn on Saturday afternoon after drill. RIP O’Neil!

  5. O’Neil was my mentor when I enlisted in the Air Guard in 1980. I was assigned to the lab and he was my mentor. He was so kind and I learned so much from him. I am so sorry for your loss and he was a great man!❤️🙏

  6. Sad to hear about the passing of O’Neil. I am sorry for your family’s loss. I had the great honor of working with and being initially trained as a lab technician in the Air National Guard by MSgt Strom. O’Neil was always smiling and kept a positive outlook every day. He was a great mentor, and part of the reason why I am still in the guard 28 years later. Thank you O’Neil for everything you did for me to start me on my path. God bless you and may you rest in peace.

  7. Diane and family, I was heartbroken to read of O’Niel’s passing. He was our next door neighbor while growing up and become my ‘big brother’ and great friend. He was a wonderful guy in all respects. I cherish his memory and pray for God’s comfort for you.

  8. Christy Larson
Wife of John Erling Larson (deceased)
I send my prayers and sympathy to the families.

  9. Diane, Healther, and Kyle My Deepest Condolences to you.
Seeing O’Neil’s obituary was shocking. Diane you had a winner
of a Husband, Healther and Kyle you had a intelligent kind father.
Please find peace and comfort in your memories in the days and
years ahead. I have fond memories of your family and enjoyed
being your neighbor and the times on the front porch. Cynthia Herfindahl

  10. Deep sympathy and condolences to O’Niel’s family. I think that I was one of the people who got him interested in Medical Technology/clinical laboratory science while we were students at Concordia College in Moorhead. He was a nice guy and talked a lot about his life in Steele and his girl friend, Diane.

  11. Sorry to hear about the passing of O’Neil . You were great neighbors in the apartment building in N Fargo.

  12. We are so very sorry to see that O’Neil passed away. We so enjoyed the times we spent together. All our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you go through the days and weeks ahead. All your love, Dale & Jean Johnson

  13. So sorry Diane to hear about O’niel. Please know that I am thinking of you, and would love to be there for you during this very difficult time. With roads and just getting over the flu we will be unable to make it. Sending a huge hug your way.

  14. “Everything is beautiful and I am so sad.
This is how the heart makes a duet of
wonder and grief. The light spraying
through the lace of the fern is as delicate
as the fibers of memory forming their web
around the knot in my throat. The breeze
makes the birds move from branch to branch
as this ache makes me look for those I’ve lost
in the next room, in the next song, in the laugh
of the next stranger. In the very center, under
it all, what we have that no one can take
away and all that we’ve lost face each other.
It is there that I’m adrift, feeling punctured
by a holiness that exists inside everything.
I am so sad and everything is beautiful.”
    -Mark Lepo

Blessed to have him as our cousin; honored to think of him as our big brother. I’ll never forget his gentle spirit, radiant smile and loving heart. Rest easy O’Niel.

  15. Strom family our deepest condolences. You are in our thoughts and prayers. He will be missed by so many people. 🙏🙏. Kenny and Laurie Arcand

  16. Our deepest sympathy to O’Niels family. He was a wonderful, kind, considerate man and lucky to have known him growing up in Steele. It was always a pleasure to run into the two of you at Pride of ND.

  17. Diane & Family, so sorry to hear of your loss. O’Neil and I grew up together in Steele. May all your special memories sustain you at this most difficult time. My prayers are with you.

  18. I was so surprised to hear that O’Neil had passed. We worked many a night together in the lab years ago! My deepest sympathy! Bonnie Dittus

  19. 1963 to 1967 were 4 of my favorite years growing up in Steele, ND where O’Niel was 2 years older than me and he being an upper-classman I looked up to him and also because of his physical height. I watched him enjoy playing sports during his high school years. Some 22 years later in 1989 I worked as a Security Officer for St Lukes and MeritCare Hospital in Fargo and it was there I observed O’Niel working many years of night shifts in the Clinic Lab on Broadway. I later visited with him upon his retirement. I have read all of the tributes here and agree that O’Niel was a kind and gentle man who had a big smile. I am glad he enjoyed several years of retirement. The years go by so quickly. Good memories though and we all have grown wiser.

  20. So sorry to hear this about O’niel. I attended school in Steele with O’niel until 1966 when I moved away. You could count on O’niel doing his best at whatever he did. He was a great at all sports. He was a genuine friend. I am sure he will be missed by many.
