Opal Agnes (Johnson) Sandvig Opal A. Sandvig, 86, formerly of Leonard, ND, died on December 12, 2007 at St. Mary?s Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes, MN. Opal Agnes Johnson was born to Bernard and Alice (McKay) Johnson on November 11, 1921 near McCleod, ND. She married Elner Sandvig on December 26, 1940 in Moorhead, MN. They farmed near Sheldon, ND and later moved to Leonard, ND where they both worked at the Leonard School. Elner died in 1972. Opal lived in Fargo and West Fargo for a number of years. She moved to Lincoln Park in Detroit Lakes in 2003 and became a resident of St. Mary?s Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes, MN in 2005. She will be remembered for her lefsa, divinity, popcorn balls, angel food cake, and most of all for her generosity toward others. She is survived by a son: Arlo (Karin) Sandvig, Audubon, MN; daughter-in-law: Sonia Sandvig, West Fargo, ND; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a sister: Edith Sandvig, Enderlin, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elner; son, Rolly Sandvig; sister, Eleanor Olson; and a brother, Laurus Johnson. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 17, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Leonard Lutheran Church in Leonard, ND. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 pm before the service. Burial will be at the Leonard Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, ND.
