The livestream of Oryce's service will appear below starting about 15 minutes before the service:
Oryce passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021, at her home in Fargo, at the age of 85.
Oryce JoAnne Burns was born on September 23, 1935, the daughter of J.C. and Olga (Elton) Burns on the family farm near Walcott, ND. She grew up in this area, attended rural elementary and graduated from Colfax High School as valedictorian of her class. Oryce was baptized, confirmed and a lifetime member of South Pleasant Church near Christine, ND.
Oryce was united in marriage to LeRoy Carlson on October 1, 1953, in Fargo, ND. They made their home in Fargo where they raised their five children in the house LeRoy built. She lived in that house her entire life. Oryce worked at Northwest Wool Company, in accounting, for over 40 years. She had excellent business skills, but raising her children was the most important role in her life.
Oryce enjoyed bowling in a league with her husband and friends, playing cards – especially whist with relatives, she was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking. She spent many summers working with LeRoy on the farm, driving truck and preparing meals. She loved taking care of her grand and great grandchildren.
Mom will be remembered as a kind, loving gentle soul and had a quiet wisdom about her. She was a wonderful mother.
Oryce is survived by her children – Sue Hilzendager, Linda Carlson, Sandy McGregor, and Nancy (Gregg) Johnson; her “other daughter” Cheryl Olson; her sister, Ann (Dale) Current and her brother, Vern (Gayle) Burns. Also surviving are her grandchildren – Sara, Jasmine, Brooke, Samantha, Ashley, Stephanie, Adam, Justin, Luke and Hanna; and 14 great grandchildren; along with her beloved dog, Emmy.
Oryce was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; her son, David Carlson; her sons-in-law – Butch Hilzendager and Steve McGregor; her brother, Richard Burns and her sister-in-law, Charlotte Burns.

I loved Oryce so much. I have countless memories of growing up around the family. She exuded kindness and patience. She and LeRoy always welcomed people in their Fargo house, and the Walcott farm. Sweet rest, dear Oryce.

Beautifully written account of the wonderful life Oryce lived. Her family is her legacy. There is no greater story than that of a Mother’s love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. May Oryce be reunited with her husband LeRoy for eternity. Memories shall sustain you until eternity is yours as well. God Bless you all as you lay her to her final rest.
My condolences to the entire Carlson family.
I have been very blessed to have known Oryce and her late husband Leroy for over 30 years.
Oryce always treated me with love, kindness and loved to joke with me often. I will miss that! This past Christmas was a very special time and I’m very happy I could spend the Holidays with her, Linda and Emmy. She will be missed greatly. God bless you Oryce, you’re home now!! Love, Jeff and family
To my dear Carlson family, so wish I could be there with you. (dealing with Covid right now). Dear Oryce and LeRoy, I have so many good memories, they were always in a good mood and was so fun to see them every time and have conversations and just be around them. They were so connected, and very inspirational in so many ways, like how a relationship should work, it came so natural to them. They always loved each other and loved their family. Oryce has been wanting this day to come for a few years now so she can be with her best friend, and lover, LeRoy. Happy for Oryce, she is now content! Always loved you Orcye & LeRoy so very much for being who you are. You are very special to me and many others, will miss you very much! Thank you for being who you are, and the way you were.

Sending love and hugs and prayers from South Bend, IN. One of my memories was horseback riding when we visited. They definitely welcomed us every time we visited. And her food was soo good. She will be missed by the Anderson family in Indiana.
Having met Oryce several times over the years, I know she was a kind , sweet, joyous soul. She will be deeply missed by her loving daughters. Her arrival in Heaven will be met by those she lived and has been missing these past years. God rest your eternal soul now and peace and comfort all the days to come. My sincere sympathies to Linda and her sisters. May they cherish and remember the joys they have always shared with their parents.
