Ovedia “Vidi” Marie (Haakenson) Burton, 95, died peacefully on August 20, 2024, in Fargo, ND.
Vidi was born in McHenry, ND, on December 21, 1928, and then moved to New Rockford, ND. She married Myron Burton in 1945 and had seven children. While raising their family, they also lived in Kansas City, KA, Breckenridge, MN, Wahpeton, ND, and Fargo. Vidi divorced Myron in 1975. In 1977, she married Buck Lampman and divorced him in 1994.
Her career took her from St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge to St. Luke’s in Fargo, and finally as the most popular food demo lady at Hornbacher’s then at Sam’s Club.
Vidi was loved by everyone who met her, especially her children and grandchildren. She was kind, determined, loving, nurturing, good-humored, curious, generous, occasionally stubborn and impatient, family-focused, quick, and always “minded her own business.”
She was an expert at wallpapering and helped (supervised) her children and grandchildren with home projects. Her famous homemade potato salad never lasted long and was especially enjoyed by son-in-law Curt. For years, she had season tickets to the FM Straw Hat Players with daughter-in-law Peggy. For 20 years, she went on spring break vacations with son Jeffrey and family.
Vidi held sleepovers frequently with her grandchildren, made homemade Halloween costumes, sewed curtains and clothes for all her kids, baked treats, and hosted family gatherings at her home. She loved watching (supervising) her daughter Margaret’s gardening, having a girl’s day out getting pedicures, and enjoying a margarita or a gin & tonic on nights out.
Vidi loved to keep busy, watch the Bison and the MN Twins with family, do her crosswords (in pen!) and jigsaw puzzles, and always had a project or two going on.
Vidi is survived by her children, Michael, Margaret, Claudia Koppelman (Curt), and Jeffrey (Varda); grandchildren, Sara Koppelman, Landon Conarty (Michelle), Zoe and Henry Burton; and greatgrandchildren, Aiden and Austin Conarty.
She is predeceased in death by parents, Ingvald (IT) and Gertrude Haakenson of New Rockford, ND; siblings, Deloris, Mildred, Marvel, Irving, and Darwin; son, Tommy and wife, Peggy; daughter, Debbie Conarty; and an infant son.
The family would like to offer their deepest thanks to Vidi’s caregivers at Maple View Memory Care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the local Food Bank in Vidi’s memory. And follow her wisdom to, “Love your family, no matter what.”
Her children would like mom to know that we are working on “the rules.”

Mike, I’m so sorry. Hug your sister for me too. Moms are hard to lose.
Mike, Margaret, Claudia and Jeff, so sorry to see that Vidi passed. I have fond memories of first meeting her at the lake (probably 40 years ago?) and running into her and Peg at many Strawhat Players (as I also was a season ticket holder). What a wonderful lady. I will not be able to attend her service, but will keep you all in my thoughts.
Rest in peace Vidi🙏🙏🙏
Michael, Margaret, Claudia and Jeff so sorry to learn of the passing of your mom. She was a great lady.
