Paul Francis Weir, 61, died in Seattle, Washington on May 1, 2024. Paul was the son of Harlan Patrick Weir and Rebecca Jane Fullerton (deceased 2018). Born in Dickinson in 1962, Paul was the eldest of four boys (Paul, Patrick Jr., Timothy, and Justin) and grew up on the north side of Fargo. He graduated from Shanley High School in 1980 and received his BA from the University of Minnesota in 1988, before relocating to Seattle in the late eighties. He was married to Lisa Vanderbeck and they had two sons, John McCabe Weir and George Walton Weir.

Athletic, handsome, and gifted intellectually, Paul easily made many friends, and he worked in a wide variety of industries, including forestry, fishing, construction, and management for Home Depot and Whole Foods. His peripatetic nature took him to Alaska, Arizona, and Colorado, as well to the Pacific Northwest. In Seattle, he and his family were long-time residents of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Paul traveled throughout Europe and Asia. He loved reading and movies and music; he took immense pride in the success of his two sons. Before his death, Paul spoke warmly of his volunteer work with the local homeless population.

Paul is survived by his children, John McCabe Weir and George Walton Weir, his father, Harlan Patrick Weir (Diane) of Medora, ND, Pat Weir Jr. (Kathy) of Fargo, ND, Timothy Weir (Margaret) of Rochester, MN, Justin Weir (Joy) of Lexington, MA, and numerous aunts and uncles, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother, Rebecca Jane Russell-Fullerton.

A funeral service will take place on June 1, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2711 7th Street East, West Fargo, ND, with interment to follow. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Sincere sympathy to the Weir family. My Fargo memories would be incomplete without you. May Paul rest in peace yet live forever.

  2. Our deepest sympathy to Patrick & his family , may the memories you shared bring you peace & comfort..And may Paul rest in the arms of Christ.

  3. My family and I send our deepest condolences to Pat Sr. and to Paul Francis’s brothers. I remember Paul Francis as a handsome young man who broadcast a sense of romance and adventure. I know he was loved deeply by all of you, and by Paul and Sue, Mike and Lois, and their families. May he rest in peace and may all of you find peace knowing his soul is at rest.

  4. I’m a fellow ‘80 Shanley grad who enjoyed Paul’s unassuming intellect as he helped us, always calmly, navigate through high school. His laugh with friends let us know everything was going to be ok. God rest his soul as he finds peace in his prepared special place, as God promises us all. Peace to you, his loving family.

  5. I’m a fellow 1980 Shanley classmate of Paul’s as well. I got to know Paul especially during our senior year in high school but was also fortunate in having him as a house mate in our early undergraduate years at University of Minnesota Twin Cities. His nickname for me in those years was “Doc” which turned out to be a highly accurate premonition! Paul enjoyed a wide array of music; I fondly remember spending many nights listening to live bands at various haunts throughout the Twin Cities with him. He enjoyed reading as well and would devour books and magazines on a multitude of topics. Irish heritage was a common topic of conversation as he was a proud Irishman! As an adventurous soul who found solace in exploring the world, Paul often talked about galavanting off to far away places; it’s reassuring for me to know he was able to fulfill those travel dreams during his lifetime. His passion for travel inspired many of his friends to seek out new horizons in their lives as well. Although we went separate ways during most of our adult years, reflecting back on all of the wonderful memories of Paul makes me smile. His spirit will always be present. He was a true friend through and through; fiercely loyal, trustworthy and supportive. Realizing he is gone leaves a massive hole in my heart. Rest in peace. Forever your friend. Mark C. “Doc”

  6. Hi Paul – It’s Reuben. You’ve been in my thoughts lately. This must be why.

Remember how we were inseparable besties way back at Holy Spirit (aka Holy Spitball)
And how grown up we felt riding our Stingrays on the street for the first time. No destination, just exploring, laughing, sharing thoughts, ideas, fears, and crushes. We were pretty deep for grade schoolers weren’t we? haha!

In retrospect, I saw your first steps towards a life of travel, music, nature, friends and family. Thank you for sharing such a magical time in our lives together.
