Peder Arnold Nystuen was born September 26, 1914 and reared at his parent’s homestead in Frederick Township, Divide County, North Dakota.  He graduated from Crosby High School as valedictorian in 1934.  He graduated from NDSU in 1939 with a B.S. degree in Agriculture.  He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, Alpha Zeta and Phi Kappa Phi fraternities.  He later received an M.S. degree in Agriculture in 1956.  After college, for 3 years he taught vocational agriculture at Arthur and Amenia High Schools.  In June 1942, he was drafted into the Army Air Corp.  After basic training he attended Officer’s Training School followed by an assignment at Broken Bow, Nebraska.  He was honorably discharged as Captain at Lowry Field, Denver, Colorado on February 14, 1946.  Peder married his bride Anna (Ann) Pearl Person, Evansville, Minnesota at Hastings, Nebraska on May 25, 1943.  To their union were subsequently born Gail, Paul and John.  On September 16, 1946, he was employed as Administrative Assistant, College of Agriculture and Agricultural Experiment Station at NDSU.  This became his life’s work.  He retired August 1, 1981 from NDSU as Associate Dean of the College of Agriculture and Associate Director of North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station.  He was a long-time member of 1st Lutheran Church, Fargo, North Dakota. 

Peder is survived by his wife, Ann; sons, Paul (Signe) and John (Susan); 6 grandsons, Eric (Melissa), Peder (Katie), Adam (Jessica), Jeff, Mike and Matt; and 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Alma Talbot, Edna Harchenko and Arne (Sharon) Nystuen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Otto, Myrtle, Walter; and daughter, Gail Arnold.
