Peggy Eblen, 80, Hillsboro, passed away Monday, April 1, 2024 at the Hillsboro Nursing Home surrounded by family.
Peggy Jean Wiger was born on May 3, 1943 in Fargo, ND to Orville and June (Larson) Wiger. She grew up on the family farm near Hillsboro, ND and graduated from Hillsboro High School and Mayville State College. She married David Eblen on December 27, 1963, in Hunter, ND. Peggy taught first grade in Hunter and Hillsboro and she and David farmed in the Hillsboro area for over 30 years. In 2007 they moved to Fargo.
Peggy enjoyed service work and connecting with people. She was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Altar Society, served on the Hillsboro School Board and was a Hospice volunteer. She earned a certificate of Spiritual Direction and shared her strong faith with many people throughout the years. She loved the lake and spent much time at Round, Tulaby and Ottertail Lakes during the summers. She loved hosting gatherings for family and friends, playing cards and sharing her infectious smile and laugh with everyone she met. She also enjoyed traveling, with trips to Norway, the Holy Land and Hawaii being some of the highlights. Peggy’s biggest joy was family: she never missed an opportunity to spend time with her beloved grandchildren.
Peggy is survived by her son – Bob (Deb) Eblen of Kansas City, MO; daughter Patrice (Kevin) Lahlum of Horace; and five very special grandchildren – Sam and Noah Eblen, Josh, Adam and Maya Lahlum. Also surviving are her siblings – Janice (Elwood) Wiger, Galen (flo) Wiger, Marilyn (Jim) Arneson, Debbie (Mike) McNamee, Becky (Russ) Pederson, and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband David, sister Carroll and infant brother Gary. Peggy preferred memorials be directed to Hospice of Red River Valley or Great Plains Food Bank.
Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m., with a prayer service at 6 p.m., Friday, April 5, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 6, at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

I knew your mom from Riverview. Her smile and laugh could brighten a room. Sending prayers for all.
We will always remember her smile and laughter. God’s blessing to all her family.
Thoughts and prayers for family. Peggy is now resting in the eternal presence of God and heaven. She will always be with you and watching from above, only her physical form is no longer seen, her spirit will be with you forever.
Mrs Eblen was my second grade teacher in Hunter, ND. Every time I ran into her, I would always call her Mrs Eblen and she would say “you can call me Peggy, Donna.” She will always be Mrs Eblen to me lol! I loved her as a teacher and I will miss chatting with her.
We are so sorry to learn of your mom’s passing. Peggy was a kind and compassionate friend. I got to know her best as a fellow member of the Hillsboro school board. She was such a great board member to work with. She will be missed. Cynthia and I send our prayers and deepest sympathies to your family.
I am so sorry for your loss. The few times we had the opportunity to meet her she always had a smile and cracked some good jokes! I know she loved her family very much. Thinking of you and your family.
Peggy was such a great classmate at Hillsboro. We remember her great personality and smile. Condolences to the family. Keith and Marlene Falconer.
We knew her from Sts Anne & Joachim in Fargo.
Nice lady.
So very sorry for the loss of your mom. Thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time.
Peggy was my 1st grade teacher. I will always have fond memories of her both there and in Fargo when we would run into each other. It always amazed me that she knew exactly who I was and would ask about my family –parents and my own kids!
I knew Peggy and David when we were actively involved with Traill County Farmers Union for many years. My sympathy to her family in the loss of her.
May she rest in peace.
So sorry to hear about Peggy’s passing. She was a high school classmate and we had many fun times together. Sending my condolences and prayers to the family.
