Phyllis Corinne Unterseher

Phyllis Corinne Unterseher, 91, formerly of Bowdon, ND, passed away on July 14, 2022 at Essentia Health in Fargo.

Phyllis was raised on a farm south of Bowdon with three brothers and one sister. After graduating from Bowdon High School she moved to Fargo to attend Fargo Business College. She was offered a job at Wallworks Automotive, but decided to return to Bowdon and married Dallas Unterseher, a rural mail carrier, in 1949. They raised their family of seven children in Bowdon. She took the responsibility of giving her faith to her children. There was not a Catholic church in Bowdon, so she drove them to Mass each Sunday in Fessenden, Sykeston or Hurdsfield while she lived in Bowdon.

While raising her family, Phyllis worked part-time at a clothing store and grocery store in Bowdon and later at a bank in Heaton and Carrington. Dallas died in 1980, and she later moved to Fargo in December of 1983 to be closer to her children. She got right to work as a cashier/hostess at the Grainery Restaurant at West Acres Mall. She met and married Ed Rowell in 1992. When the new Radisson Hotel opened downtown, she became a hostess/cashier in the restaurant and earned the position of restaurant manager. Phyllis retired from the Radisson in 1993 and she and Ed moved to Rothsay, MN. To take a well-earned break from the cold Midwest winters, they spent a few months each year in Palm Springs, CA. In 1999, Phyllis and Ed decided to move full-time to a warmer climate and went off to Pahrump, NV. After a few years, they wanted to be closer to family and moved back to Fargo in June of 2002. Ed passed in 2017. Phyllis then moved to Riverview in 2019, where she enjoyed playing (and winning) pinochle and bingo. She was a voracious reader and loved to work through word search books and enjoyed doing puzzles. She also had fun traveling around the country and making occasional trips to the casino.

Phyllis is survived by her 7 children, Vicki Unterseher, Fargo; Keith (Emy) Unterseher, Anoka, MN; Kim (Carla) Unterseher, Bismarck; Kari (Todd) Salwey, Fargo; Jill (Mitch) Knudtson, Harvey; Michael (Michelle) Unterseher, Kimberly, AL; and Marna (Bill) Nelson, Horace, 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She has one living sibling, Cliff Johnson (Scharre) Crescent City, CA

She was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Johnson Schisel; two brothers, James and Robert Johnson; husband, Dallas Unterseher; husband, Edwin Rowell; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Gordon, Matthew Gordon, Cody Unterseher, and Tiffany Guttormson Stock.
